Metso Expands Data-Driven Services for Mining Customers as Connected Equipment Base Exceeds 800 Units

(IN BRIEF) Metso is accelerating its data-driven services for mining and minerals processing customers, with the number of connected equipment units now exceeding 800. This is more than double the number connected when Metso launched its Data-driven Performance Services in September 2025. The services combine connected equipment data, advanced analytics, AI models, instrumentation and equipment failure analysis expertise to help customers improve maintenance efficiency, safety, reliability and productivity. Metso reports that its services can detect 80% to 90% of issues, increase equipment availability by up to 6%, and reduce CO₂ emissions by as much as 20% per tonne. At a customer site in South America, the solution captured 94% of identified risks over six months, avoided more than 215 hours of potential downtime and delivered USD 7.4 million in captured value. The company said the growth of its connected equipment base reflects rising demand for digital services that turn operational data into measurable value for mining customers.

(PRESS RELEASE) ESPOO, 28-Jul-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Metso is expanding its data-driven services for the minerals processing industry, helping mining customers improve equipment performance, reduce downtime and unlock operational value from connected assets.

The company said the number of connected equipment units supported by its digital services has now exceeded 800, more than doubling since the launch of Metso Data-driven Performance Services in September 2025.

The services are designed to help customers improve maintenance efficiency, enhance safety, prevent failures and increase overall productivity.

Metso said connected equipment enables faster analysis and action by combining equipment data with advanced analytics, artificial intelligence and expert support.

Arttu-Matti Matinlauri, Vice President, Minerals Digital at Metso, said the company’s experience shows that failure prevention is high when customers use Data-driven Performance Services, with 80% to 90% of issues detected.

He said customers have also recorded availability increases of up to 6% and reductions in CO₂ emissions of as much as 20% per tonne.

According to Matinlauri, analysis is carried out by combining standard instrumentation, advanced analytics and AI models with knowledge of equipment failure modes and effects analysis, supported by experienced personnel at Metso’s Performance Centers.

Metso said real-world use of its Data-driven Performance Services has already demonstrated measurable operational benefits.

These include reductions in unplanned downtime, avoidance of costly equipment failures and improved reliability across mining operations.

By identifying developing issues at an early stage, customers can plan corrective actions before failures occur.

This helps reduce operational risk and improve the reliability and predictability of production.

Metso said it can now analyse both connected individual assets and process islands in a more holistic way, giving customers broader insight into equipment and process performance.

At a customer site in South America, the deployment of Metso’s Data-driven Performance Services with connected equipment has delivered measurable improvements in operational performance and value creation.

The site achieved a sustained reduction in unplanned downtime and improved operational reliability.

Metso said the results were supported by proactive condition monitoring, timely field interventions and longer mean time between failures.

During the first six months of operation, the solution captured 94% of identified risks, enabling early detection and mitigation of potential failures.

The service also helped avoid more than 215 hours of potential downtime and reduced the need for spare parts.

Metso said this resulted in total captured value of USD 7.4 million.

Pablo Zuniga, Director, Performance Services at Metso, said the results show how Data-driven Performance Services are improving customer operations and supporting mining companies’ ambition to remain at the forefront of the industry.

He said Metso will continue working with customers to turn operational data into tangible business value.

Metso said the continued expansion of its connected equipment base reflects growing demand for digital services that improve reliability, efficiency and sustainability in minerals processing operations.
