Alstom Appoints Laurent Bazin to Lead Electric Locomotives Assembly Plant in Kazakhstan

(IN BRIEF) Alstom has appointed Laurent Bazin as the General Director for EKZ (Electric Locomotives Assembly Plant) in Astana, Kazakhstan. With extensive experience in supply chain and procurement roles, Laurent has contributed significantly to Alstom over the years. In his previous positions, he served as the Digital Transformation Director in the AMECA and APAC regions and as the Supply Chain Director in Kazakhstan. Laurent played a key role in the transfer of traction and transformer technology to EKZ. Alstom has a strong presence in Western & Central Asia, with multiple offices, depots, and plants in Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan. EKZ specializes in electric locomotive manufacturing and maintenance, while KEP focuses on point machine production.

(PRESS RELEASE) SAINT-OUEN-SUR-SEINE, 2-Jun-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — Alstom (EPA: ALO), a French multinational rolling stock manufacturer and leader in sustainable and green mobility solutions, is pleased to announce the appointment of Laurent Bazin as General Director for EKZ (Electric Locomotives Assembly Plant) in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Laurent Bazin brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having joined Alstom in 2002. Throughout his tenure, he has held various positions and made significant contributions to the supply chain and procurement functions at Alstom’s headquarters and the production site in La Rochelle. From September 2016 to June 2023, Laurent served as the Digital Transformation Director in the AMECA (Africa, Middle East, and Central Asia) and APAC (Asia-Pacific) regions, as well as the Supply Chain Director in Kazakhstan. He was instrumental in transferring traction and transformer technology to EKZ.

Laurent Bazin’s educational background includes a degree in Civil Engineering from Lille University and a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Ecole Nationale des Arts et Industries de Strasbourg.

EKZ, located in Astana, specializes in the manufacturing and maintenance of electric locomotives, as well as the production of on-board transformers. Meanwhile, KEP in Almaty focuses on the production of point machines.
