(PRESS RELEASE) SAINT-OUEN-SUR-SEINE, France, 6-Feb-2023 — /EuropaWire/ —  Alstom (EPA: ALO), a French multinational rolling stock manufacturer and leader in sustainable and green mobility solutions, announces that it has received an order from ČD-Telematika to supply the European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2 for seven Pendolino vehicles on Line 680 and 66 electric vehicles on Line 471. This includes the design and implementation of the solution, as well as maintenance for a 10-year period, including spare parts and repairs. The ETCS system will be augmented with national functionalities to allow trains to operate in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

The Level 2 system provides the highest level of safety protection and network capacity increase by using continuous digital radio communication with train movements based on signalling block occupation detection. It increases speed, punctuality, and train capacity in a safe manner and the latest Baseline 3 version offers improved operational performance and passenger comfort.

Alstom’s signalling facility in Charleroi will handle the engineering of the signalling systems and on-board equipment. With over 70% of trains equipped with a European-made ETCS choosing Alstom, this contract confirms the company’s leading position in the railway signalling market. Alstom’s ETCS Level 2 system is already in use in countries such as Belgium, the Czech Republic, Norway, Spain, the UK, India, and Australia, and is currently being deployed on high-speed trains in Germany.

“I am proud that we offer adaptable, competitive signalling solutions capable of increasing train operation frequency and safety on rail. ETCS Level 2 is the optimal signalling solution for current needs and Alstom’s proven solution includes best-in-class features with a flexible, upgradeable design,” says Dan Kurucz, Managing Director of Alstom Czech Republic and Slovakia.
