ENGIE Expands Electric Vehicle Charging Network in Belgium with Major Wallonia Deployment Project

(IN BRIEF) ENGIE, through its ENGIE Vianeo brand, has been selected to deploy nearly 3,000 electric vehicle charging points across Belgium’s Walloon Region, further strengthening its position as a leading operator in the country’s electric mobility sector. The project includes 2,926 charging points across 242 municipalities and builds on existing contracts in Brussels and Flanders, bringing ENGIE Vianeo’s total network in Belgium to nearly 7,000 charging points with a target of 12,000 by 2028. At the European level, ENGIE aims to install 25,000 charging points by 2030, including infrastructure for heavy goods vehicles. The initiative supports the broader energy transition by promoting accessible, renewable-powered charging solutions that contribute to transport decarbonisation and energy sovereignty across Europe.

(PRESS RELEASE) LA DÈFENSE, 14-Apr-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — ENGIE is advancing its electric mobility strategy through its brand ENGIE Vianeo, with plans to deploy nearly 3,000 public electric vehicle charging points across the Walloon Region of Belgium. This latest development strengthens the company’s position as a major operator in the country’s growing electric vehicle infrastructure market.

Following a recent contract award in the Brussels-Capital Region, ENGIE Vianeo has now been selected by Walloon authorities to install 2,926 charging points. The project will see the rollout of 1,625 charging stations, each offering 22 kW capacity, strategically located in urban centres, local communities, and public spaces such as sports facilities. The infrastructure will be operated by ENGIE Vianeo for a period of 10 years and is expected to serve 242 municipalities, covering nearly the entire region.

This expansion further solidifies ENGIE Vianeo’s leadership in Belgium’s electric mobility sector. Combined with its Brussels project, which includes over 1,600 charging points, and its established presence in Flanders, the company now manages one of the most extensive charging networks in the country. Currently, ENGIE Vianeo operates close to 7,000 charging points nationwide, with ambitions to reach 12,000 by 2028.

At a broader European level, ENGIE is pursuing an ambitious growth trajectory in public charging infrastructure. The Group has set a target of deploying 25,000 charging points across Europe by 2030, including 1,000 dedicated to heavy goods vehicles. Its existing network already includes approximately 11,000 charging points in operation across France and Belgium, with further expansion underway in Germany, alongside a growing focus on electrification solutions for commercial transport.

Frank Lacroix highlighted the strategic importance of electric mobility within the Group’s broader energy transition agenda. The continued development of accessible and efficient charging infrastructure, powered by renewable energy sources, is positioned as a key enabler of transport decarbonisation and a contributor to strengthening Europe’s energy independence.

Through this latest initiative in Wallonia, ENGIE Vianeo is reinforcing its role in supporting the shift toward sustainable mobility while expanding its footprint across key European markets, aligning infrastructure development with evolving transportation needs and environmental objectives.
