New Loctite Coatings from Henkel Deliver Durable and Sustainable Solutions for Next-Generation Vehicle Displays

Henkel has launched an anti‑fingerprint (AF) coating portfolio, comprising Loctite AF 8810 and Loctite AF 8812, innovatively formulated without PFAS or fluorine ingredients.

(IN BRIEF) Henkel has launched two new anti-fingerprint coatings, Loctite AF 8810 and AF 8812, designed for automotive displays and formulated without PFAS or fluorine ingredients. The solutions address tightening global regulations while delivering high performance, including durability, optical clarity, and smooth touch interaction. Optimized for plastic and glass surfaces respectively, the coatings are built to withstand harsh automotive environments and support large-scale manufacturing processes. The launch reflects Henkel’s commitment to developing sustainable materials that meet both regulatory requirements and the evolving needs of modern vehicle display systems.

(PRESS RELEASE) DÜSSELDORF, 14-Apr-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Henkel has introduced a new generation of optical coating solutions aimed at the automotive sector, combining high performance with enhanced sustainability. The newly launched anti-fingerprint coatings, Loctite AF 8810 and Loctite AF 8812, are formulated without PFAS or fluorine-based substances, addressing tightening global regulations while maintaining premium functionality.

As regulatory scrutiny around per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances intensifies across Europe, the United States, and Asia, manufacturers are seeking alternative materials that can meet performance requirements without relying on fluorinated chemistry. Henkel’s latest coatings respond to this demand by offering a silicone-based, low-surface-energy solution that delivers consistent results across a range of substrates.

The solutions are designed for automotive applications such as in-vehicle displays and touchscreens and meet growing demands for display performance, durability, cleanability and sustainability all at once.

The two products are specifically tailored for automotive display applications, including in-vehicle touchscreens. Loctite AF 8810 is designed for use on plastic display cover lenses, while Loctite AF 8812 is optimized for glass surfaces, providing protection up to a 9H hardness level. Both coatings are engineered to enhance durability, visual clarity, and user interaction, supporting the increasing role of digital displays in modern vehicles.

With automotive interiors becoming more reliant on advanced display systems, the need for robust and responsive surfaces has grown significantly. These coatings enable smooth touch functionality through reduced friction, while maintaining high optical transparency and minimal haze. They are also built to withstand demanding conditions such as temperature fluctuations, prolonged UV exposure, and repeated mechanical wear, ensuring long-term reliability.

Performance testing has demonstrated strong resistance to abrasion, with coatings maintaining hydrophobic properties even after extensive use cycles. In addition, the solutions are compatible with large-scale manufacturing processes, including spray application and physical vapor deposition, and can be cured in relatively short timeframes, supporting efficient production workflows.

Deckard Sorensen highlighted that the shift away from PFAS-based materials is accelerating worldwide, requiring solutions that balance regulatory compliance with technical performance. The newly developed coatings are positioned to meet these evolving demands without adding complexity to manufacturing processes.

Through this launch, Henkel continues to advance its portfolio of sustainable materials, providing automotive manufacturers with solutions that align with both environmental expectations and the performance standards required for next-generation vehicle technologies.
