(PRESS RELEASE)  SAINT-OUEN-SUR-SEINE, 5-Jul-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — Alstom (EPA: ALO), a French multinational rolling stock manufacturer and leader in sustainable and green mobility solutions, has entered into a contract with Koleje Mazowieckie, the regional rail operator in the Mazovian Voivodeship in Poland, to perform P5 maintenance on 37 Twindexx double-deck coaches. The project, in compliance with the IRIS standard (ISO/TS 22163), will be executed between 2023 and 2025, focusing on quality, reliability, and technical safety.

As part of the agreement, Alstom will conduct the overhaul of 26 trailing double-deck coaches (“Bpz”) and 11 control double-deck coaches (“ABpbdzf”). The contract’s total value exceeds seventy million eight hundred and twenty thousand Polish zlotys. This particular type of maintenance is required after 16 years of operation. The comprehensive scope of the P5 maintenance level includes all activities outlined in the maintenance system documentation, as well as technical and operational documentation. The detailed inspection, partial disassembly, replacement, and repair of components and assemblies will be performed on the “Bpz” mid-series bi-level coaches and “ABpbdzf” control series bi-level coaches. Furthermore, the contract encompasses additional tasks such as the supply and replacement of mono-block wheels.

“The double-deck coaches were the first railroad vehicles of this type purchased by the Regional Government of the Masovian Voivodeship for Masovian Railways. As a result, push-pull trains were launched as the first in Poland. These trains successfully serve designated routes in Mazovia, as well as “Słoneczny” or “Słoneczny – BIS” trains running from Warsaw to the seaside in the summer season. Repairs to all 37 control and trailing coaches will be carried out in accordance with the Maintenance System Documentation, and will also undergo the necessary modernization resulting from current regulations,” – said Czesław Sulima, Head of Management Board, Operations Director of the Masovian Railways.

Air system valves and pressure sensors will be repaired, air conditioning fan motors replaced, and the exterior varnish coating renewed. Passengers will also notice improvements resulting from the P5 maintenance level, including the replacement of damaged windows, carpets, and partial restoration of highly worn passenger seats.

“Modern, low emission rolling stock is key to the development of regional and suburban railway. Double-deck coaches play an important role and are characterised by high capacity, ideal for lines serving high passenger traffic. We are pleased that Twindexx trains have become an important element of the landscape across Mazovia and in Warsaw. Comprehensive overhaul services will allow for the further safe operation of these coaches in Koleje Mazowieckie’s fleet in the years to come,” points out Slawomir Cyza, CEO and Managing Director of Alstom in Poland, Ukraine and Baltic States.

The Twindexx series consists of modern push-pull passenger double-deck coaches. Koleje Mazowieckie’s fleet currently comprises 37 Twindexx Vario coaches, including 11 control coaches and 26 trailing coaches. These coaches are utilized not only in Poland but also in several other countries, such as Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, Belgium, Luxembourg, Israel, and the United States.
