(PRESS RELEASE) BREMEN, 30-Jan-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — wpd, a prominent international developer and operator of wind farms and solar parks, has secured a ten-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Netherlands-based LyondellBasell for the Licata onshore wind project in Italy.

The Licata wind farm, situated along the southern coast of Sicily, is currently under construction and will feature seven Vestas V150 turbines, collectively delivering a total capacity of 30 MW. The wind farm is expected to produce approximately 79,000 megawatt hours of electricity annually, enough to power around 32,000 households. The project is part of wpd’s 1.3 GW pipeline in Italy, highlighting the company’s ongoing commitment to renewable energy in the region.

With this PPA, LyondellBasell, a leading global chemicals company, reaffirms its commitment to sustainability and climate action. The agreement with wpd represents a significant step in LyondellBasell’s strategy to reduce carbon emissions and advance its efforts towards lower-carbon solutions.

“Teaming up with wpd on the Licata wind project marks a pivotal move in our strategy to deliver innovative, low-carbon solutions,” said Chris Cain, Senior Vice President of Net Zero Transition Strategy at LyondellBasell. “This agreement will provide reliable, onshore wind energy to power our operations in Ferrara, aiding our emissions reduction goals and promoting sustainable industrial practices in Italy.”
