Voith Hydro’s new Bosnia and Herzegovina facility serves western markets with world-class generator components

(IN BRIEF) Voith Hydro has opened a new center of competence for generator components in Lukavac, Bosnia and Herzegovina, which will serve customers in North and Latin America, Europe, and Africa. The facility was set up in collaboration with experts from Voith Hydro’s central technology department in Germany and is located near the mainly European supplier base of insulation materials. The company also works closely with ELIN Motoren, a Voith company in Bosnia, that produces motor and generator coils and wind generator components. After successful acceptance tests, the facility began pole production for hydropower stations in several countries. All production lines, including poles, bars, and coils, meet international standards and Voith Hydro’s internal quality aspirations.

(PRESS RELEASE) LUKAVAC, Bosnia and Hercegovina, 7-Mar-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — Voith Group, a German manufacturer of machines for the pulp and paper industry, announces that Voith Hydro has opened a new center of competence for generator components in Lukavac, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The facility, which has been operational for six months, will serve customers in western markets across North and Latin America, Europe, and Africa. The Lukavac location was set up in collaboration with experts from Voith Hydro’s central technology department in Germany, where essential R&D functions for generator components are based.

In addition to its proximity to Voith Hydro’s German headquarters, the Lukavac facility benefits from its proximity to the mainly European supplier base of insulation materials, which ensures efficiency and smooth operations. The company also collaborates closely with the Bosnian facility of ELIN Motoren, a Voith company that produces motor and generator coils and wind generator components in the neighborhood.

Pole production began in February 2022 after successful acceptance tests, with initial orders for hydropower stations in Belgium, Luxembourg, Sweden, and Switzerland. The facility’s success is evident, with the company’s project pipelines for all production lines, including poles, bars, and coils, filled. The bars and coils, like the poles, underwent demanding life-cycle simulations and high-voltage tests, meeting not only international standards but also Voith Hydro’s even higher internal quality aspirations.

“With this facility, we bundle our competence for bars, coils, and poles. The location in central Europe is ideal to serve not only the European market but also Africa, the Americas, or even beyond,” commented Dr. Tobias Keitel, President & CEO Voith Hydro.

“We were deeply impressed by the state-of-the-art workshop,” said Luc Reinig, Technical Director at Société Electrique de l’Our in Luxembourg.
