Gonvarri Industries Strengthens Renewable Energy Strategy Through 10-Year Electricity Agreement with Iberdrola

The electricity supplied will come 80% from wind farms and 20% from solar photovoltaic installations.

(IN BRIEF) Iberdrola has signed a 10-year renewable electricity supply agreement with Gonvarri Industries to provide 26,000 MWh of power each year to eight production facilities in four European countries. The agreement will be fully backed by guarantees of origin, with around 80% of the electricity coming from wind farms and 20% from solar photovoltaic installations, supported by 15 MW of Iberdrola renewable capacity. The PPA gives Gonvarri Industries access to a stable and competitive supply of European renewable energy, helping the company advance the electrification of its production processes, improve efficiency and reduce its carbon footprint. For Iberdrola, the deal further strengthens its position as a long-term energy partner for European industry and supports its wider strategy of accelerating industrial electrification, expanding renewable supply agreements and contributing to a more secure, sustainable and competitive energy system.

(PRESS RELEASE) BILBAO, 21-May-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Iberdrola has signed a 10-year renewable electricity supply agreement with Gonvarri Industries, strengthening a partnership focused on industrial electrification, stable energy costs and the decarbonisation of manufacturing operations across Europe. The Power Purchase Agreement, or PPA, will provide 26,000 MWh of electricity annually to eight Gonvarri Industries production facilities located in four European countries.

Under the agreement, the electricity supplied to the sites will be fully covered by guarantees of origin, ensuring that 100% of the power consumed by the facilities is matched with certified renewable generation. The energy will be sourced mainly from wind power, which will account for around 80% of the supply, while the remaining 20% will come from solar photovoltaic installations. The supply will be supported by 15 MW of Iberdrola renewable capacity.

The agreement reflects the increasing importance of long-term renewable energy contracts for industrial companies seeking to improve competitiveness while advancing their sustainability objectives. By securing European renewable electricity at stable and predictable prices, Gonvarri Industries will be able to support its production activity with greater energy certainty while reducing the environmental impact of its operations.

For Gonvarri Industries, the PPA represents a further step in its strategy to expand the use of clean electricity across its European industrial footprint. The company, a multinational provider of metal solutions, is working to strengthen the electrification of its production processes, improve operational efficiency and lower the carbon footprint of its facilities.

The partnership also reinforces Iberdrola’s role as a key energy supplier for European industry. Through long-term agreements with major corporate customers, the company continues to support industrial decarbonisation and the transition towards a more secure, competitive and sustainable energy system.

Iberdrola has built a strong position in the PPA market, with renewable power supply agreements across Spain, Portugal, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, the United States, Brazil and Australia. Its diversified generation portfolio includes onshore wind, offshore wind, solar and other technologies, allowing the company to offer reliable and competitive renewable energy solutions to large energy consumers.

The agreement with Gonvarri Industries forms part of Iberdrola’s broader strategy to accelerate electrification across the economy and help industrial companies meet growing energy demand through renewable sources. PPAs are becoming an increasingly important tool for companies that want to reduce exposure to energy price volatility, secure long-term supply and make progress on decarbonisation targets.

Josu Calvo, CEO of Gonvarri Industries, said the agreement represents an important advance in the company’s sustainability strategy, as it will allow Gonvarri Industries to continue electrifying its production processes with renewable power while moving forward with the decarbonisation of its industrial operations.

David Martínez, Head of Customer Business at Iberdrola España, said partnerships of this kind contribute to the stability and competitiveness of industry by offering long-term certainty around secure and sustainable energy supply. He added that PPAs play an important role in supporting investment, industrial activity and the wider electrification of the economy.
