Jungheinrich Delivers Advanced Automated Warehouse Solution to Support Gebrüder Weiss Logistics Transformation in Hungary

(IN BRIEF) Jungheinrich has implemented a fully automated warehouse solution for Gebrüder Weiss Ltd. in Páty, Hungary, helping the company transition from manual to automated logistics operations. The high-bay facility offers 28,000 pallet spaces and uses autonomous mobile robots to manage storage and retrieval, improving efficiency and reducing labour dependency. The system integrates seamlessly with manual processes and supports high throughput, while being implemented without disrupting ongoing operations. The project enhances both operational performance and workforce capabilities and aligns with broader sustainability and automation goals planned through 2026.

(PRESS RELEASE) HAMBURG/ BUDAPEST, 22-Apr-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Jungheinrich has delivered a fully automated warehouse solution for Gebrüder Weiss Ltd. at its logistics centre in Páty, Hungary, marking a major step in the transition from manual to automated operations. The project stands among the largest autonomous warehouse investments in the country and reflects a strategic response to increasing logistics complexity and labour shortages.

The new system is housed within a 32,000-square-metre facility and supports a wide range of logistics services for a dedicated customer, from raw material intake and storage to production supply and international distribution. Central to the setup is a high-bay, very narrow aisle warehouse with a capacity of 28,000 pallet positions, significantly enhancing storage density and space efficiency.

Automation is driven by six EKX 516a mobile robots, which manage storage and retrieval processes independently. These vehicles operate within a controlled environment, handling repetitive, high-volume tasks with precision and reliability, reducing reliance on manual labour while ensuring consistent operational performance.

The system is designed to handle multiple pallet height configurations and can process up to 120 pallets per hour. With storage heights reaching up to 10 metres, the warehouse maximizes vertical capacity. The robots are capable of continuous operation across two shifts, supported by charging systems that allow uninterrupted workflows.

A hybrid operational model ensures seamless interaction between automated and manual processes. Pallets are introduced into the automated system via transfer stations, where sensors verify dimensions before entry. These same stations are used for outbound flows, maintaining efficient coordination. Integration between the warehouse management systems of both companies enables smooth data exchange and operational visibility.

The project was implemented in phases while maintaining ongoing operations, starting in early 2024 and reaching full operational capacity by mid-2025. During the rollout, strong emphasis was placed on workforce engagement, including training initiatives and transparent communication to highlight new opportunities created by automation.

The introduction of automation has led to improved resource utilization and operational efficiency, while also enhancing the skill sets of employees across different functions such as operations, IT, and process management.

Sustainability remains a key pillar of Gebrüder Weiss’s strategy. Previous initiatives include automated warehouse developments supported by photovoltaic systems and the deployment of electric delivery vehicles in Hungary. The Páty facility is part of a broader development program extending through 2026, with additional automation planned, particularly in raw material handling and internal logistics processes.

Through this collaboration, Jungheinrich and Gebrüder Weiss demonstrate how advanced automation technologies can transform logistics operations while supporting long-term growth and sustainability objectives.
