IKEA Belgium and Svea Solar Launch Accessible Home Solar Solutions Aimed at Reducing Energy Costs for Everyday Households

(IN BRIEF) IKEA Belgium has introduced plug-in balcony solar kits through IKEA Energy Services in partnership with Svea Solar, making renewable energy more accessible to households without rooftop installation options. The easy-to-install systems can be connected to a standard power socket and are designed for balconies, terraces, and other small spaces, offering a practical solution for tenants and apartment residents. Starting at €349.99, the kits help reduce electricity consumption and lower energy bills, with discounts available for IKEA members. The launch reflects IKEA’s broader strategy to expand affordable and accessible energy solutions across multiple markets, with Belgium becoming the second country to offer this type of solar technology.

(PRESS RELEASE) LEIDEN, 22-Apr-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — IKEA Belgium is expanding access to renewable energy by introducing plug-in balcony solar kits, offering households a simple way to generate electricity at home without the need for rooftop installations. The initiative is part of IKEA Energy Services and is being rolled out in collaboration with Svea Solar, making Belgium the second market globally to offer this type of solution.

Designed for ease of use, the solar kits can be installed without structural modifications or professional assistance. They are suitable for a variety of spaces, including balconies, terraces, gardens, and exterior walls, and connect directly to a standard power outlet. This approach allows more people—particularly apartment dwellers and tenants—to participate in renewable energy generation.

The product range starts at €349.99, with additional options priced between €249 and €1,299 depending on system size and configuration. Customers enrolled in IKEA Family or IKEA Business Network programs can benefit from a temporary 15 percent discount available until the end of August 2026. The offering is exclusively available through online channels.

These compact solar systems are designed to immediately offset a portion of household electricity consumption during daylight hours. By reducing reliance on grid power, they provide a practical way for users to lower energy costs while contributing to more sustainable energy use.

The introduction of balcony solar solutions reflects a broader effort to address energy affordability and accessibility. Many households face rising energy costs but lack the physical or financial capacity to install conventional rooftop solar panels. By simplifying the technology and reducing installation barriers, IKEA aims to make renewable energy adoption more inclusive.

IKEA Energy Services operates by connecting customers with trusted partners who handle delivery, installation, and maintenance of various energy solutions, including solar systems, home batteries, heat pumps, electric vehicle chargers, and flexible electricity plans. The service is currently available in multiple international markets, with Belgium joining Germany in offering plug-in balcony solar options through the partnership with Svea Solar.

Through this initiative, IKEA continues to focus on making sustainable living solutions more widely accessible, supporting households in managing both their energy consumption and costs more effectively.

About IKEA Energy Services
IKEA Energy Services helps people better manage their home energy use and costs. IKEA Energy Services is currently available in ten markets: Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK.

Belgium joins Germany as the second market to offer plug-in balcony solar specifically, through the partnership with Svea Solar. Find out more about the range of Energy Services available currently at IKEA Belgium.
