Jungheinrich to Deliver Advanced Automated Central Warehouse for Wicke GmbH + Co KG in Germany

(IN BRIEF) Jungheinrich has been awarded a contract by Wicke GmbH + Co KG for the development of an automated central warehouse in Sprockhövel, Germany, designed to optimize production supply and internal logistics. The high-bay silo warehouse will have 22,596 pallet spaces and include state-of-the-art automation features, such as stacker cranes and a Warehouse Management System (WMS). The project aims to improve efficiency and sustainability in Wicke’s logistics and is set to be completed by June 2027.

(PRESS RELEASE) HAMBURG, 13-May-2025— /EuropaWire/ — Jungheinrich has secured an order from Wicke GmbH + Co KG to design and implement a state-of-the-art automated central warehouse in Sprockhövel, Germany. This advanced solution is aimed at enhancing production supply and boosting the efficiency of Wicke’s internal logistics processes. The facility will feature cutting-edge automation to streamline material handling and optimize the flow of both finished and semi-finished products between the warehouse and production lines.

The new warehouse, set in a high-bay silo design, will offer 22,596 pallet spaces, significantly increasing storage capacity for Wicke’s products. The project’s main goal is to connect existing and new production facilities, thereby improving logistics efficiency and minimizing transport distances across the site.

Optimized Logistics and High Capacity

The new automated central warehouse spans over 3,500 square meters and reaches a height of 25.5 meters, equivalent to an eight-storey building. Complementing the warehouse will be a handling building, which includes social and office spaces. This will house key operations such as goods receipt, dispatch, picking, and packing, distributed over two levels. The system will have the capability of handling 150 double cycles per hour, offering a high throughput for the two-shift operation. A second phase of construction is planned to connect an additional production building, further improving the efficiency of the logistics network.

Nadine Despineux, Sales Director at Jungheinrich, said, “With the automation of this central warehouse, we are providing Wicke with a robust and future-proof solution that will not only boost operational efficiency but also enhance its competitiveness. This project highlights the importance of automated logistics systems in achieving scalable, sustainable, and modern production supply.”

A Unified Solution from Jungheinrich

Jungheinrich’s comprehensive solution includes the provision of seven stacker cranes for double-deep pallet storage, fully integrated pallet conveyor systems with PLC and visualisation, silo racking, roof and wall cladding, as well as safety features like sprinkler systems and fire doors. The installation of Jungheinrich’s Warehouse Management System (WMS) will ensure optimal control of all warehouse and material flow processes.

With this all-inclusive approach, Jungheinrich solidifies its position as a key strategic partner for Wicke. The collaboration builds on a long-standing relationship between the two companies, with Wicke already supplying high-quality wheels and castors for Jungheinrich’s industrial trucks. The new partnership will now bring together expertise from both sides, resulting in an integrated solution that prioritizes efficiency, sustainability, and long-term reliability.

The new central warehouse is expected to be completed by June 2027.
