Hydro to donate thousands of food baskets to people near its operations in the state of Pará in northern Brazil

(PRESS RELEASE) OSLO, 19-Jun-2020 — /EuropaWire/ — Norwegian aluminium and renewable energy company Hydro has announced it is making its second donation in Brazil since the country was severely hit by the Covid-19 pandemic. The company will donate 11,000 food baskets to people near its operations in the state of Pará in northern Brazil. Earlier this year Hydro also donated 25,000 food baskets to seven communities across Pará.

The baskets contain food and hygiene materials such as liquid detergent, soap, and bleach. The food donation is just one initiative in support of the cities in the fight against COVID-19.

In recent months, Hydro has donated 5,000 virus detection kits to local communities, as well as around 100,000 medical items destined for municipal hospitals, health units and field hospitals in Barcarena and Paragominas. Among the items are hospital beds, pulse oximeters, digital infrared thermometers, gloves, masks, aprons and biological protection overalls.

Our joint-venture aluminium plant in Barcarena, Albras, also donated a former employee residence, with 36 apartments with individual bathrooms, as well as a laundry and dining room, to be used as a field hospital.

Previously, Hydro made two donations totaling BRL 10 million for the construction of public field hospitals, totaling 960 beds.
