Wood Expands Decade-Long Role in Iraq with New Agreement to Deliver EPC and Engineering Services at West Qurna 1

(PRESS RELEASE) ABERDEEN, 19-Nov2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Wood, the global consulting and engineering group, has been awarded a new contract to provide project management and engineering services for PetroChina at the West Qurna 1 oilfield in southern Iraq. This agreement extends Wood’s long-standing role at one of the world’s largest oilfields, where the company has been supporting operations for more than ten years.

Under the terms of the new contract, Wood will oversee a series of engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) projects aimed at sustaining and enhancing operations at West Qurna 1. The giant field, located around 50 kilometers northwest of Basra, is estimated to contain over 20 billion barrels of recoverable reserves and remains one of the most critical assets in Iraq’s energy landscape.
