(NEWS) STEIN, Germany / OKINAWA, Japan, 19-Jun-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Okinawa Suntory Arena is set to become the first venue in Asia to install a portable, full-LED ASB GlassFloor, marking a new step in the use of digital playing surfaces for professional sport and multi-purpose arena operations in Japan.

According to a press release published by EuropaWire, the arena will be the first venue in Japan to deploy the full-LED glass floor for professional sports competition. The project is also ASB GlassFloor’s first portable court installation, building on the company’s existing permanent installations in Europe.

The installation is designed to give Okinawa Suntory Arena greater flexibility in how it uses its main event space. The mobile floor can be adapted for different formats, including elite sports competitions, concerts, esports, MICE events and exhibitions. This allows the venue to change court markings and visual presentation without relying on conventional fixed-surface arrangements.

For fans, the full-LED glass floor is expected to create a more integrated visual experience by extending digital content from arena displays onto the court itself. For venue operators, teams and commercial partners, the technology opens additional opportunities for sponsorship, branding and in-arena content activations.

Okinawa Suntory Arena will work with ASB Arena and Event Services AG, a subsidiary of ASB GlassFloor, to support the operation and commercial use of the floor. The agreement covers servicing, maintenance, commercialization support and content creation around the new playing surface.

The arena is home to the Ryukyu Golden Kings, one of Japan’s leading professional basketball clubs and a prominent franchise in the B.League. The installation comes as Japanese and Asian arenas face increasing competition to offer more flexible, commercially attractive and visually engaging live-event experiences.

Benedikt von Dohnanyi, CEO at ASB Arena and Event Services, said the partnership reflects a shared effort to use innovation to strengthen the connection between fans, partners and the game. He added that the project is intended to support new in-arena experiences, commercial opportunities and the future of basketball and live entertainment in Japan.

The Okinawa project also fits into a broader period of expansion for ASB GlassFloor. In a separate 1 June 2026 update, ASB GlassFloor said the Stadtgartenhalle arena in Saarlouis, Germany, would install one of its LED glass sports floors, allowing the venue to switch between handball, basketball and volleyball through integrated LED court markings. That project, valued at approximately €1.4 million and supported by €1 million in funding from the State of Saarland, highlights the company’s focus on adaptable sports infrastructure.

ASB GlassFloor describes its technology as a combination of glass flooring, LED display capability and sports performance standards. The company says its full-LED video sports floor is certified by FIBA, IHF and FIVB, and has been used in professional and international sports settings, including installations at BMW Park in Munich and the Telekom Center in Athens, as well as events linked to NBA, NCAA and FIBA competitions.

Recent milestones listed by ASB GlassFloor include use of the technology at the 2026 EuroLeague Final Four, the 2026 Lidl Final4, the 2026 BIG12 Tournament in the United States, and earlier fixed installations at BMW Park and the Telekom Center Athens. The company also established ASB Arena and Event Services in 2025 to support the operation and commercialization of its glass-floor platform.

For Okinawa Suntory Arena, the installation represents both a venue upgrade and a positioning move in the evolving market for sports and entertainment infrastructure. By adopting a portable LED glass court, the arena is aiming to support professional basketball while also broadening its capacity to host events, create digital presentation formats and develop new commercial partnerships.
