Autumn Campus 2020 – Hazlerigg Building

(IN BRIEF) Loughborough University has reached its highest-ever position in the QS World University Rankings 2027, climbing 22 places from 225th to 203rd globally. The result brings the University close to its goal of entering the global top 200 and reflects progress across research, teaching, professional services, partnerships and external engagement. The QS rankings assess universities using indicators such as academic reputation, employer reputation, research impact, international outlook and student experience. Vice-Chancellor Professor Nick Jennings said the rise reflects collective effort across the University and gives Loughborough further momentum, while stressing that the result is not the finish line. He said continued progress will depend on high-quality research, graduate success, international partnerships, employer collaboration and opportunities to showcase the University’s expertise.

(PRESS RELEASE) LOUGHBOROUGH, 18-Jun-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Loughborough University has achieved its highest-ever position in the QS World University Rankings, rising 22 places in the 2027 edition to reach 203rd globally.

The University moved up from 225th to 203rd place, bringing it close to its ambition of entering the global top 200. Loughborough said the result reflects progress across the institution and provides further momentum as it continues to strengthen its international reputation.

The QS World University Rankings are among the most widely recognised international university league tables. They assess universities using a range of indicators, including academic reputation, employer reputation, research impact, international outlook and the student experience.

Loughborough noted that rankings are only one measure of institutional success, but said this year’s improvement reflects work taking place across research, teaching, professional services, external partnerships and wider engagement.

Professor Nick Jennings, Vice-Chancellor of Loughborough University, said the significant rise reflects collective effort across the University and the momentum being built. He said the result is not the final destination, with the global top 200 now within reach.

Jennings said every high-quality research paper, successful graduate, international partnership, employer collaboration and opportunity to showcase Loughborough’s expertise contributes to the University’s reputation and future progress.

He thanked colleagues across the University for their contribution to the result, saying their work across all aspects of Loughborough’s operations had helped deliver the institution’s strongest-ever QS ranking performance.

Loughborough said it will share more information in the coming months about how the QS rankings work, what they measure and how different activities across the University contribute to its current position and future direction.
