Sustainability: Vattenfall ranked as top 1% among 75,000 companies assessed by EcoVadis

(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 12-Feb-2021 — /EuropaWire/ — Leading European energy company Vattenfall announces that its sustainability work has earned the Platinum award, the highest rating from EcoVadis, a leading source of corporate sustainability evaluation. Vattenfall, ranked as the top 1 percent among 75,000 companies, strengthens its position as one of the most sustainability-oriented companies in the energy sector.

“It is very rewarding that our sustainability work is being recognised. I believe it is the result of a lot hard work and it shows that our employees have embraced sustainability and understood its value to our business. Sustainability is fully integrated into our strategy and everything we do, it has the highest priority throughout our own operations, but also in our collaboration with suppliers, customers and partners,” says Annika Ramsköld, Head of Corporate Sustainability at Vattenfall.

Sustainability performance is the basis for Vattenfall’s purpose – Power Climate Smarter Living and enabling fossil-free living within one generation. Vattenfall has a clear commitment to its employees, customers and other stakeholders to remain a leader in the energy transition.

Vattenfall’s responsibility and commitment also extends beyond its own operations to the full value chain: both upstream, through suppliers and sub-suppliers as well as downstream, to customers. The guidelines from OECD and the UN Guiding Principles for Business and Human Rights are core to Vattenfall´s sustainability work.

“I am particularly proud and happy that all efforts and focus on supply chain and social issues, like human rights and working conditions on supplier sites, is recognized and visible. Here, our score increased from 50 to 80, ranking us as top 1% among the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply industry. We focus our work on screenings, audits and collaborating with suppliers and sub-suppliers to support and improve our suppliers’ sustainability performance,“ continues Annika Ramsköld.

Every year, Vattenfall undergoes an assessment by EcoVadis, which focuses on four themes: Environment, Labour & Human Rights, Sustainable Procurement and Ethics.

The past few years, Vattenfall has received Gold, but this year the Platinum award, the highest possible score, has been granted among 75,000 companies assessed by EcoVadis.
