Danish coming-of-age thriller ‘What about Monica’ to premiere on NENT Group’s Viaplay in 2021

(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 12-Feb-2021 — /EuropaWire/ — Nordic region’s leading media and entertainment provider Nordic Entertainment Group (NENT Group) announces new series for the young adult audience to join new shows premiering on Viaplay this year. Danish coming-of-age thriller ‘What about Monica’ is set to premiere exclusively on NENT Group’s Viaplay streaming service later this year. Shooting of this eight-part Viaplay Original production has just begun in Denmark with leading roles played by upcoming talents Filippa Coster-Waldau and Maja Thiele.

16-year-old Louise’s life is turned upside down when her best friend Monica is raped at a party. Burdened by guilt, Louise singlehandedly begins to investigate the crime, but the more she unravels the more complicated it becomes. When digging deeper into the case Louise discovers that everyone has secrets and forbidden emotions, and she begins to suspect that the rapist might be one within her group of friends. It all collides when Louise starts to develop feelings for the mysterious outsider, Thais, who – according to her friends – is the alleged rapist. Suddenly Louise is faced with a serious decision: shall she stick with her friends or follow her heart and defend Thais who she believes is innocent?

‘What about Monica’ follows the announcements of Viaplay Originals ‘Thunder in My Heart’; ‘Try Hard’; ‘Dystopia’ and ‘Delete Me’ – all series premiering on Viaplay in 2021 as an important part of NENT Group’s content strategy adding premium original content for young adults.

Filippa Coster-Waldau and Maja Thiele plays the leading roles in ‘What about Monica’ which is a classic coming of age told as a crime story. It is written by Julie Budtz Sørensen and based on her award-winning Danish podcast ‘Det med Liv’ and directed by Nils Holst-Jensen. It is produced by Nimbus Film and filmed in Denmark. Viaplay Original ‘What about Monica’ will premiere on Viaplay later this year.
