MUNICH, 01-May-2018 — /EuropaWire/ — Reliable vehicles and a reliable partner – two things that Schröder Reisen values. The company now has eight new NEOPLAN Tourliners and six new NEOPLAN Skyliners in operation. These will be used for intercity travel with Flixbus.

Schröder Reisen was one of the first companies to step into the intercity bus market, and is considered one of its pioneers. The family business from Langenau in Germany operates multiple intercity routes for Flixbus – most recently with 14 new premium coaches, including eight new NEOPLAN Tourliners and six new NEOPLAN Skyliners. This means that since April 2013, MAN Truck & Bus has delivered a total of 75 coaches to Schröder Reisen, 33 of which are from the NEOPLAN range. “We’re very pleased about this long-standing partnership that has developed over the years and the great working relationship we have,” said Andreas Losert, the Regional Bus/Coach Sales Manager in the Southwest Sales Region at MAN Truck & Bus Deutschland GmbH, during the official handover of the vehicles at the MAN Bus Forum in Munich. “Receiving a delivery like this is something very special.” Andreas Schröder, owner of Schröder Reisen, and his son Dominic accepted the new coaches from Holger Mandel, Chairman of the MAN Truck & Bus Deutschland Management Board.

The intercity buses from Schröder Reisen cover a distance of around 250,000 to 300,000 kilometres per year and are generally in use seven days a week. “This is why we need a partner who can keep up with us in terms of service, and we have found that partner in MAN,” explained Andreas Schröder. “It’s also incredibly important to us that our vehicles are reliable and also perform highly in terms of fuel consumption and environmental sustainability,” added Dominic Schröder, who is responsible for the company’s intercity bus division.

14 new coaches – two reasons to celebrate

The NEOPLAN Skyliners stand out due to their Euro 6 diesel engines with 500 hp (368 kW), which provide a powerful drive. The automated 12-gear TipMatic manually operated gearbox with an MAN EasyStart moving-off aid ensures a smooth and quiet driving experience.

Safety and efficiency are safeguarded by a comprehensive package that includes electronically controlled Comfort Drive Suspension (CDS) and numerous assistance systems such as the electronic stability program (ESP), the Lane Guard System (LGS) with haptic warning and the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), the advanced emergency braking system (EBA) and the topography-based MAN EfficientCruise cruise control with EfficientRoll “sailing function”. Smoke alarms in the toilet and luggage compartment emit an early warning in the event of smouldering fire, even before any heat develops. The vehicles are also equipped with a fire alarm warning system in the engine compartment and the auxiliary heater area. Light and rain sensors optimally support the driver so they can fully focus on driving. Likewise, the MAN AttentionGuard minimises the risk of an accident by detecting the first signs of poor concentration and fatigue in the driver; it then emits a warning to the driver via a visual, acoustic and optionally a haptic signal.

NEOPLAN Skyliners can hold a maximum of 77 passengers. The double-deckers have also a folding ramp at door 2 so that individuals with limited mobility can board and alight with ease. Up to four rows of seats in the lower deck can be folded and pushed together along rails to make space for up to two wheelchairs. The Skyliners are also equipped with a trailer coupling, a ski rack bracket, a toilet with large fresh water and waste water tanks, a 230 volt socket under each double seat and USB ports in the seat backrests. “These coaches are ready for anything – for trips to ski resorts or all the way to Paris or Milan. The driver and passengers can travel to their destination in complete comfort,” explained Andreas Losert.

The NEOPLAN Tourliners – including the 33rd NEOPLAN to have been delivered to Schröder – are powered by 460 hp (338 kW) diesel engines. They are also fitted with the automated 12-gear TipMatic manually operated gearbox with an MAN EasyStart moving-off aid. A wheelchair lift above the rear axle and two optional wheelchair spaces make travelling as easy as possible for disabled passengers. The three-axle coach measuring 13.9 metres in length can hold a total of 52 passengers. They feature bi-xenon headlights, LED daytime driving lights and LED fog lights in addition to various assistance systems and a door-mounted camera for safety purposes. The coaches are also equipped with the MMC (Multi Media Coach) Advanced infotainment system with navigation, as well as a Bluetooth hands-free system.

All new coaches come in a vibrant green, including the wheel trims and even the night lighting in the passenger area. “These vehicles are certainly immediately recognisable as Flixbusses, but it’s not just their striking colour that is eye-catching. The dynamic design with its clean lines is also stunning,” said Andreas Losert.

In addition to Flixbus intercity routes, Schröder Reisen also operates regular services in UIm and the surrounding areas, as well as providing transport for schools, day trips and longer overnight trips. Andreas Schröder founded the company in 1990 in Langenau near Ulm: “My parents worked in the bus sector, too. Buses have been a part of my life since childhood, and they have always fascinated me.”
