(PRESS RELEASE) COPENHAGEN, 31-Jan-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Maersk A/S, a subsidiary of A.P. Moller – Maersk, and Hapag-Lloyd AG are set to officially launch their collaborative ocean network, Gemini Cooperation, on February 1, 2025. This new operational partnership aims to provide a highly flexible and interconnected global shipping network, with an ambitious target of achieving over 90% schedule reliability once fully implemented.

Approximately 340 vessels will gradually join the shared network, with the first sailings scheduled for February 1, 2025. More vessels will follow as they align with the new schedules, which are expected to be fully operational by June 2025. The phase-in period, which will run until late May, is designed to ensure a smooth transition for customers, allowing them to experience enhanced reliability and flexibility with more competitive shipping options.

Johan Sigsgaard, Chief Product Officer of Ocean at Maersk, expressed confidence in the transition, stating, “After a year of meticulous planning, we are now ready to begin the phase-in of the new network. We believe the innovative design will provide our customers with increased reliability, flexibility, and more competitive products, ultimately improving their experience with our services.”

The new network, covering East/West trades, will include 29 mainliner services and 28 intraregional shuttle services. These services will operate in a way that ensures customers benefit from a broad, efficient, and flexible global shipping network. This shared effort between Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd also marks the end of their previous agreements with other carriers, as the vessels are integrated into the Gemini Cooperation.

For those interested in learning more about the launch, Maersk held a media briefing on January 27, 2025, and the session recording is available for viewing.
