(PRESS RELEASE) SCHINDELLEGI, 12-Nov-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — In a groundbreaking initiative, Kuehne+Nagel has joined forces with Azul Linhas Aéreas to support Amazonian riverside communities by connecting small producers and cooperatives to national and international markets. This partnership aims to foster sustainable development and socio-economic inclusion through innovative logistics solutions, aligning with both companies’ Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals.

The initiative is part of the ARA Movement – All Amazons Under the Same Blue Sky, an Azul-led effort that connects local cooperatives with businesses and services to stimulate the socio-bioeconomy of the Amazon region. Azul Linhas Aéreas offers critical logistical support, including discounts of up to 80% on freight, through its logistics arm, Azul Cargo Express. This service allows small-scale producers to access over 5,000 municipalities, participate in events, and market their products to urban centers across Brazil. Kuehne+Nagel contributes its logistics expertise to further expand access to both domestic and international markets for these producers.

Adriana Martins, President of Kuehne+Nagel in Brazil, emphasized the importance of the collaboration: “Working with Azul on this initiative allows us to combine our logistics capabilities with a cause that has deep social impact. This partnership further strengthens our ‘Living ESG’ commitment, reinforcing our goal of becoming the most reliable partner in supply chains while contributing to a more sustainable future.”

As part of their joint efforts, the companies held a workshop at UniAzul in Campinas, where they trained a group of entrepreneurs on domestic transportation processes and the steps to becoming exporters. The session focused on helping local artisans, organic farmers, and businesses that produce items derived from Amazonian biodiversity scale their operations while ensuring environmental sustainability. Kuehne+Nagel provided comprehensive support, from securing licenses to identifying new market opportunities.

Filipe Alvarez, Sustainability Manager at Azul, remarked, “This partnership is a pivotal step in ensuring that Amazonian products reach new markets, combining quality and sustainability. By adding logistical expertise to the ARA Movement, we enhance the support we offer to these communities, expanding their impact.”
