KPN Strengthens Sports TV Offering With ESPN, Goal Alerts and Flexible Combivoordeel Benefits

The company said customers who do not watch football will not automatically pay for it, while football fans can continue accessing ESPN without an additional mandatory €2.50 per month charge. From 6 August, KPN customers with a TV+ Box or TV+ Soundbox will receive ESPN channels in UHD quality at no extra cost. The upgrade applies to ESPN on channel 14 and channels 221 to 224. KPN is also offering features including goal alerts during Vriendenloterij Eredivisie matches, exclusive summaries via KPN TV+, and live ESPN viewing through the KPN TV+ App.

(PRESS RELEASE) ROTTERDAM, 4-Aug-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — KPN is enhancing the football viewing experience for customers ahead of the new Vriendenloterij Eredivisie season by keeping ESPN available free of charge through Combivoordeel and upgrading ESPN channels to UHD quality.

KPN has signed a new multi-year agreement with ESPN and said it has deliberately chosen to maintain ESPN as a free benefit for eligible customers through Combivoordeel.

The company said this approach means customers who do not watch football do not automatically pay for it, while football fans who do want access to ESPN can continue watching without an additional mandatory fee.

KPN said customers will not face an extra €2.50 per month charge on top of their subscription in order to continue following football.

From 6 August, KPN customers will also receive a free upgrade to UHD image quality across all ESPN channels.

Customers using a TV+ Box or TV+ Soundbox will be able to watch matches with sharper images, greater detail and more vivid colours at no additional cost.

The UHD upgrade applies to ESPN on channel 14 and channels 221 to 224.

KPN said the improvement is designed to bring fans closer to the match experience, with enhanced visibility of on-field details and decisive moments.

Robin Clements, Director of Consumer Market at KPN, said football connects people and should remain accessible to as many fans as possible.

He said KPN will therefore keep ESPN available for free in the coming years for customers with Combivoordeel.

Clements said the company is consciously choosing freedom of choice by avoiding mandatory football charges for customers who do not watch the sport, while offering extra value for those who do.

He added that UHD on all ESPN channels gives customers the highest image quality for live football at no extra cost.

For football enthusiasts, Clements said this can represent savings of up to €150 per year compared with similar offers in the market.

He said that, together with goal alerts and exclusive summaries, KPN is creating a more complete football experience and bringing the stadium atmosphere closer to home.

In addition to live football in UHD, KPN is offering extra features for football fans.

During matches, customers can receive goal alerts from other Vriendenloterij Eredivisie fixtures.

They can also watch exclusive summaries through KPN TV+.

Customers can follow ESPN live while travelling through the KPN TV+ App on their mobile phones.

Combivoordeel is available to customers who combine multiple KPN services.

Through the programme, customers receive benefits that match their preferences, including ESPN for football fans or other available options within Combivoordeel.

KPN said ESPN will remain available free of charge in the coming years for customers who choose it as their benefit.

If customer preferences change, the selected benefit can be changed as well.

Customers can adjust their choice each month through the MijnKPN app.

With ESPN included through Combivoordeel, UHD quality across ESPN channels at no additional cost, smart features for football fans and flexible benefit selection, KPN said it is offering customers a complete football viewing experience in time for the start of the new season.
