(PRESS RELEASE) BERN, 4-Aug-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Swisscom is welcoming 186 young people starting their apprenticeships this summer, marking the beginning of a new professional chapter for the next generation of talent.

At the same time, 196 apprentices and students are celebrating the successful completion of their training, closing an important phase of learning, development and personal growth.

Swisscom said the start of an apprenticeship gives young trainees and students the opportunity to deepen their interests, discover new skills and gain their first practical experience in the working world.

The company supports young talent on the path toward a networked future and aims to provide an environment in which apprentices can develop, contribute and take on responsibility.

Under the motto “Discover your possibilities,” Swisscom trains around 700 apprentices across Switzerland.

This also includes 24 students completing a practical bachelor’s degree in information technology.

This year’s new intake includes apprentices entering vocational training in IT, covering application and platform development, as well as interactive media design, mediamatics, commercial and retail professions, and digital business development under the Federal VET Diploma.

In addition, nine students are starting the practical bachelor’s degree programme in information technology.

At Swisscom subsidiary cablex, 15 apprentices are beginning Federal VET Diploma apprenticeships as electricians, network electricians with a focus on telecommunications, and assembly electricians.

Stefanie Gansterer, Head of Next Generation at Swisscom, said apprentices and students bring new perspectives, fresh attitudes, ideas, curiosity and new approaches to the company.

She said it is rewarding to see young talents develop, assume responsibility and find their own path during their apprenticeship.

Gansterer added that supporting them through this journey creates value not only for the apprentices, but also for Swisscom as a company.

She said apprentices help keep Swisscom close to the next generation, including their needs, expectations and ways of thinking.

This, she noted, is important for both the company’s ongoing development and Swisscom as a whole.

In 2026, Swisscom introduced a new phased approach for ICT apprenticeships.

The model is structured around three phases: onboarding, inspiration and performance.

The onboarding phase focuses on orientation, settling in and gaining initial experience.

During the inspiration phase, apprentices explore different topics, working methods and potential roles.

In the performance phase, they take on greater responsibility and deepen their professional skills through projects and team-based work.

Swisscom said the modular structure of its training remains a central element of the model.

Apprentices and students actively help shape their own educational path by applying internally for projects and gaining practical experience across different areas of the company.

This summer also marks a major milestone for those completing their apprenticeships.

A total of 192 apprentices successfully completed their apprenticeships at Swisscom, representing a completion rate of 98.5%.

At cablex, 86% of apprentices passed their final examinations.

Swisscom said the apprenticeship certificate reflects commitment, development and a wide range of personal achievements.

Over recent years, the graduating apprentices have gained valuable practical experience, taken on responsibility and contributed actively to Swisscom’s working environment.

The company said it is proud of all apprenticeship graduates and wished them success in their next steps, whether at Swisscom or elsewhere.

Through its apprenticeship and student training programmes, Swisscom is continuing to invest in future skills, practical education and the development of young professionals who can contribute to the digital and networked economy.
