AFRY Facilitates ENGIE’s Sicilian and Sardinian Wind Farms, Advancing Italy’s Green Transition

(IN BRIEF) AFRY, an international engineering and consulting company, has assisted ENGIE in the construction of two wind farms, Rampingallo and Porto Torres, located in Sicily and Sardinia, Italy. These wind farms, with a combined power output of 60 MW, will significantly contribute to the decarbonization efforts of the Italian islands. AFRY provided project management services to ensure the successful execution of these projects, from overseeing contracts with wind turbine suppliers to adhering to quality standards, timelines, and budgets. The wind farms have recently entered the operational phase, expected to generate 145 GWh of clean energy annually for approximately 55,000 households.

(PRESS RELEASE) SOLNA, 21-Dec-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — AFRY (STO: AFRY) a European leader in engineering, design, and advisory services, with a global reach, has provided project management services to ENGIE for the construction of the Rampingallo and Porto Torres wind farms, situated in Sicily and Sardinia, respectively. These two wind power initiatives mark significant strides in the decarbonization efforts of these Italian islands.

ENGIE, a global utility headquartered in France and a prominent advocate for low-carbon electricity generation worldwide, has successfully developed two strategically important wind farms in Italy. Each farm boasts a substantial power output of 30 MW, featuring five state-of-the-art turbines, each with a nominal power output of just under 6 MW. These turbines rank among the largest onshore turbines ever erected in Italy, reaching an impressive hub height of 118 meters.

AFRY has been a steadfast partner to ENGIE since the inception of these projects, offering critical project management services throughout the construction phase. Serving as a trusted technical collaborator, AFRY’s role encompassed overseeing the contractual aspects with the wind turbine generator supplier and coordinating with various stakeholders to ensure the projects adhered to international quality standards, the agreed-upon timeline, and budget constraints.

The Rampingallo and Porto Torres projects recently achieved the take-over milestone, marking the commencement of their operational phases, expected to span at least 25 years. Together, these wind farms will generate a combined annual output of 145 GWh, providing clean energy to an estimated 55,000 households annually.

Alessio Giuffra, Managing Director of AFRY Italy, expressed pride in the company’s partnership with ENGIE, emphasizing the pivotal role these projects play in accelerating Italy’s energy transition. Giuffra stated, “We are proud to have been the trusted partner for ENGIE in such important projects which represent a significant stride towards accelerating the energy transition in Italy. With a strong focus on sustainability, our team of wind experts has showcased unparalleled expertise and dedication, playing a crucial role in the successful execution of the two projects. We look forward to continued collaboration with ENGIE, confident that our collective efforts will pave the way for further advancements in clean energy solutions in the country and Southern Europe.”
