AFRY listed among Europe’s most ambitious companies in reducing greenhouse gas emissions

(IN BRIEF) AFRY has been included in Europe’s Climate Leaders 2023 list, compiled by Financial Times and Statista. The list comprises 500 companies that are committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and making efforts to improve their environmental impact. The ranking is based on the companies’ performance in reducing emissions in their operations, transparency in their supply chain emissions, and other indicators of their commitment to reducing emissions. It is vital that companies act quickly to address the issue of climate change, as global warming will intensify hazards and have devastating consequences.

(PRESS RELEASE) SOLNA, 24-Apr-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — AFRY (STO: AF-B), Swedish-Finnish engineering, consulting and design company active in energy, industry, infrastructure and IT, has made it to Europe’s Climate Leaders 2023 list compiled by Financial Times and Statista. The list comprises 500 of Europe’s most determined companies that are striving to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This year’s rankings were based on companies’ performance in cutting emissions in scope 1 (own operations) and scope 2 (purchased energy), as well as their transparency on Scope 3 (missions originating elsewhere in companies’ value chains). Furthermore, this year’s rankings took into account other indicators of companies’ commitment to reducing emissions.

It is vital that companies act swiftly to address the issue. The planet’s carbon budget is alarmingly low, with the IPCC warning that if annual greenhouse gas emissions for 2020-2023 average at 2019 levels, there is a 50 percent chance that global warming will exceed the 1.5°C limit. Last year, warming exceeded at least 1.1°C above pre-industrial levels, resulting in extreme weather conditions, such as heatwaves, droughts, and failed harvests. Any increase in global warming will intensify these hazards, and immediate action must be taken.
