Vestas to Install Wind Turbines for Self-Consumption Energy Project Supporting Cement Sector Sustainability

(IN BRIEF) Vestas has received a 10 MW order to supply and install three V117-3.45 MW turbines for Cementeria Costantinopoli’s cement production plant in Basilicata, Italy. The new wind farm will operate next to the facility and is expected to meet around one-third of the factory’s energy needs, marking the first Italian wind project designed exclusively for an energy-intensive cement operation. The contract includes a 10-year AOM 4000 service agreement, with equipment delivery and commissioning planned for late 2026. Company executives highlighted the project as a milestone for industrial decarbonisation and a practical example of renewable integration in heavy manufacturing. The order reinforces Vestas’ long-standing leadership in the Italian wind sector, with over 6 GW installed to date.

(PRESS RELEASE) MADRID, 5-Dec-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Vestas has secured a 10 MW order from Cementeria Costantinopoli Srl, a major Italian construction materials producer, to supply clean energy directly to its cement manufacturing facility in Basilicata. The on-site wind project will consist of three V117-3.45 MW turbines, enabling the factory to generate renewable electricity that will cover roughly one-third of its total power demand, improving energy independence while reducing emissions and operating costs.

Under the contract, Vestas will handle turbine supply and installation, complemented by a 10-year Active Output Management 4000 (AOM 4000) service agreement to optimise long-term performance and reliability. Delivery and commissioning of the turbines is scheduled for Q4 2026.

Francesco Amati, General Manager of Vestas Italy, called the project a landmark for the company and the sector, noting that it is the first wind farm in Italy dedicated entirely to powering a cement plant, positioning it as an early model for industrial decarbonisation. The initiative demonstrates how wind power can be integrated directly into energy-intensive operations.

Rabasco Roberto, Chief Sustainability Officer at Cementeria Costantinopoli, said the project is both an environmental achievement and a strategic step forward for the business, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and industry transformation. The partnership builds on Vestas’ strong presence in Italy, where the company has installed more than 6 GW of wind capacity since 1991.
