The President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz to officialy visit Bern, Switzerland

20-3-2013 — /europawire.eu/ — The President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz will pay an official visit to Bern, Switzerland on Thursday 21 March 2013. On Friday 22 March, EP President Schulz will visit the United Nations organisations based in Geneva and later deliver a speech at the Jean Monnet Foundation in Lausanne.

EP President Martin Schulz will meet with the senior Members of the Swiss government in Bern on 21 March including Maya Graf, President of the Swiss National Council, Filippo Lombardi, President of the Council of States and Ueli Maurer, President of the Swiss Confederation and Head of the Federal Department of Defence. EP President Schulz will also hold meetings with Didier Burkhalter, Head of the Federal Department of Foreign and with Federal Councillor Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf, Head of the Federal Department of Finance.

In Geneva on Friday 22 March, President Schulz will meet Guy Rider, Director General of the International Labour Organization. President Schulz will participate in the High Level segment of the Governing Body meeting of the International Labour Organisation (ILO). The high level segment takes place as part of the “Working Party on the Social Dimension of Globalisation”.

EP President Martin Schulz will meet with Navanethem Pillay, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, António Guterres, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and William Lacy Swing, Director General of the International Organisation for Migration. He will also meet with senior representatives of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and Senior Ambassadors to the WTO.

In Lausanne, on Friday 22 March, President Schulz will deliver a speech at the Jean Monnet foundation on: “European integration, democratic legitimacy and systemic crisis: what’s the European Parliament’s contribution?” followed by a discussion with Micheline Calmy-Rey, former federal Councillor for Foreign Affairs.
