(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 29-May-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — EQT AB, a purpose-driven global investment organization, is thrilled to announce the appointment of Francesco Starace as Partner within the EQT Infrastructure Advisory Team, further strengthening its capabilities in the energy and transition sectors.

Francesco joins EQT from his previous role as CEO and General Manager of Enel, a global leader in sustainable energy transition and one of the world’s largest energy utility companies.

As a dedicated advisor within the global EQT Infrastructure platform, Francesco will leverage his extensive experience and industry knowledge to provide senior insight and support investment activities, portfolio companies, and strategic initiatives.

Francesco boasts an illustrious four-decade career in the energy sector, holding senior leadership positions and serving on advisory boards, NGOs, and public policy committees. During his tenure as CEO of Enel, he played a pivotal role in spearheading the company’s efforts to phase out fossil-fueled energy production and invest in digital technologies. This transformative vision led Enel to become one of the world’s largest renewable energy producers and the largest system of digitized electricity distribution grids.

Prior to his role as CEO, Francesco headed Enel Green Power, the group’s renewable power generation company, and established it as a key player in the global renewables industry from 2008 to 2014. Under his leadership, Enel Green Power underwent a successful initial public offering in November 2010, listing on the Milan and Madrid Stock Exchanges with a market capitalization of €8 billion. Francesco’s commitment to sustainable energy is further demonstrated by his positions as Chairman of the Board of the United Nations’ Sustainable Energy for All and as a member of the Rockefeller Commission to End Energy Poverty. In 2015, he was appointed by former Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon as a member of the Board of Directors of the United Nations’ Global Compact.

Lennart Blecher, Partner and Head of the Real Assets Advisory Team, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We are honored to welcome Francesco as a Partner in EQT Infrastructure. His international reputation as a thought leader in energy transition, coupled with his instrumental role in driving Enel’s success, make him a valuable addition to EQT and our portfolio companies. We believe Francesco’s wealth of experience within the energy sector will significantly contribute to our mission of accelerating the momentum towards net-zero and decarbonization.”

Francesco Starace, incoming Partner within the EQT Infrastructure Advisory Team, shared his excitement about joining EQT, stating, “The pathway to net-zero is a gradual process that demands time and substantial investment. When effectively managed, this transition presents immense opportunities for value creation. EQT Infrastructure has long impressed me with its innovative approach and unwavering commitment to supporting companies that drive this transformational shift. I am delighted to join EQT and look forward to leveraging my experience and network to contribute to the portfolio and unlock new investment opportunities.”
