Evonik Introduces New AERODISP® Dispersions for Enhanced Waterborne Inkjet Ink Receptive Coatings

(IN BRIEF) Evonik Coating Additives has introduced four new AERODISP® dispersions, designed to enhance waterborne inkjet ink receptive coatings by improving dot sharpness and resolution. Available in both anionic and cationic variants, these dispersions are compatible with a wide range of binders and are ideal for applications in food packaging, textiles, and more. The new series includes both SiO2 and Al2O3-based products, ensuring effective ink droplet fixation and high transparency.

(PRESS RELEASE) ESSEN, 8-May-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Evonik Coating Additives has unveiled a new series of four AERODISP® dispersions, formulated with SiO2 or Al2O3 particles, aimed at enhancing waterborne inkjet ink receptive coatings. These advanced dispersions are engineered to provide excellent dot sharpness and resolution, both of which are crucial for achieving high-quality digital printing results, particularly with waterborne inkjet inks.

As digital printing moves away from traditional analogue methods, controlling the spreading and fixation of ink droplets on the substrate becomes increasingly important. The new range of AERODISP® dispersions from Evonik ensures optimal dot sharpness and effective ink droplet fixation on inkjet primers. These dispersions can be easily incorporated into formulations by simple stirring and are highly compatible with a wide range of binders.

To cater to different application needs, the new series includes both anionic and cationic options. The anionic dispersions are ideal for food packaging and decorative applications, as they work seamlessly with non-ionic and anionic binder systems. The cationic grades, on the other hand, are specifically suited for primers used with textile inks, as they are compatible with non-ionic and cationic binder systems.

The four new AERODISP® dispersions include:

  • AERODISP® WR 8520 – Anionic, SiO2-based

  • AERODISP® W 7520 WF – Anionic, SiO2-based, with excellent food contact status

  • AERODISP® WK 7330 – Cationic, SiO2-based

  • AERODISP® W 630 – Cationic, Al2O3-based, designed for high transparency

Susanne Struck, Global Head of Market Segment Inks at Evonik Coating Additives, highlighted the importance of ink receptive coatings, stating, “We offer a comprehensive range of wetting agents for waterborne inkjet inks. Working closely with our customers, we’ve realized how critical the substrate is in achieving the highest resolution. Ink receptive coatings formulated with our new AERODISP® dispersions ensure outstanding results.”

Evonik Coating Additives continues to offer an extensive portfolio of products and services for the ink industry, including a diverse selection of additives for waterborne, radiation-curable, and solvent-borne printing inks and inkjet inks.
