CASA SEAT’s September Program Celebrates Women Pioneers and Offers a Diverse Lineup of Cultural Events

The exhibition showcases the role of women in shaping the automotive landscape in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, using photographs and documents to highlight their contributions. The program also includes exclusive musical premieres, discussions on road safety and new technologies, and literary discussions with authors. All events are free with prior reservation.

Automotive pioneers

On 6 September, CASA SEAT is opening a new exhibition called “Women Pioneers”. The exhibition pays tribute to the women who contributed to making the car the invention that transformed the 20th century. The exhibition pays tribute to those women who, between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, contributed to the development of this sector that transformed horizons and economies and gave rise to a multitude of associated professions, in addition to offering new perspectives of freedom.

Through photographs, film excerpts and other documents, the public can learn insights into the biographies of around thirty pioneering women and their contribution to the history of motoring. As part of the exhibition, the space will also display the work “Dona del volant”, a painting by Ramon Casas that is part of the Fundació Orfeó Català-Palau de la Música Catalana collection.

Exclusive musical premieres

The month’s musical performances at CASA SEAT begin on the 9th with the premiere of “SEDA”, the latest creation by Silvia Nogales Barrios, a renowned guitarist and creator of interdisciplinary shows. Fusing different styles and disciplines with her guitar, the artist will offer a sensory journey through the history and music of great female composers such as Claudia Montero, Clarice Assad and Anna Segal.

On the 21st, CASA SEAT will host the exclusive presentation of Julieta’s new album. After Juji (2021) and Ni llum ni lluna (2022), the Catalan singer is releasing her third solo album, which she is presenting with a live concert. The Barcelonian performer, composer and producer has established herself as one of the references of the new Catalan pop scene, mixing electronic music and urban rhythms.

On Saturday the 23rd, trumpeter David Pastor is presenting Timelapse, his latest musical project set for release at the end of the year. Accompanied by Francesc Capella on the piano and Pere Loewe on double bass, he will offer a repertoire of classical pieces such as Schubert’s Serenade and Satie’s Gymnopedie adapted to jazz.

On the 29th, the musical duo VorAigua, featuring poet and singer Muntsa Moral and pianist Pau Perera, will present their second studio album, Boscúria. Following their debut with Meandres (2022), they’ll offer the audience a musical tribute to earth and water through intimate, vitalist melodies and sounds reminiscent of a fragrant forest.

To close the month, violinist Miquel Muñiz and pianist Federico Gianello are giving a recital on the 30th that will include melodies such as Sonata No. 2 in G Major Op. 13, by Edvard Grieg, Suite Popular Espanyola, by Manuel de Falla and Paul Kochanski, and Concerto for violin and orchestra Op. 47, by Jean Sibelius. Miquel Muñiz was the winner of the 96th edition of the Juventudes Musicales de España competition at the age of 18 and Federico Gianello won the Grand Prize of the International Piano Competition “Compositores de España” in 2002.

The return of cycles to CASA SEAT

On the 4th, a new edition of the series of talks “Moments Estel·lars” will be held with the participation of Mike Blackman, executive director of the audiovisual fair Integrated Systems Europe (ISE), and Miquel Rutllant, president of the Audiovisual Cluster of Catalonia. Moderated by the journalist Toni Aira, the meeting will focus on the projects that are making Barcelona the audiovisual capital of southern Europe.

On 8 September, CASA SEAT will host a new session of “The Making of DAMA” with the new Movistar+ series, Poquita fe. The creators of the series, Pepón Montero and Juan Maidagán, and its two leading actresses, Esperanza Pedreño and Julia de Castro, will visit the space to provide insights into the intricacies of a comedy where the absurdity of everyday life takes centre stage.

In keeping with the theme of the “Pioneers” exhibition and considering that many of the safety systems included in today’s vehicles were invented by women, the CARNET Insights meeting on the 19th will focus on new technologies and trends in road safety. Javier Luzón, Head of Vehicle Safety at SEAT S.A., Nuria Pérez, head of Aesleme’s Traffic Victims Assistance Department, and Jesús Monclús, director of the Prevention and Road Safety area at Fundación MAPFRE, will be on hand to answer some of the main questions about the future of road safety.

On the 26th, the “Literary Cafés” cycle returns after the holidays with the writer Aitor Romero and his book El arte de escribir de pie (Candaya, 2023). The work is made up of eight stories on the idea of the great life journey and the different paradigms of the post-modern traveller. The literary critic Jorge Carrión will talk with the author about this series of chronicles that begin as travel logs and mutate into cultural essays, non-fiction stories or autobiographical texts.
