(IN BRIEF) MAN Truck & Bus has launched construction of a new sales and service branch in Castanheira do Ribatejo, Portugal, marking one of the first major milestones in the company’s €300 million European service expansion programme. The new facility will feature modern service infrastructure, digital diagnostics and electric vehicle charging capabilities while supporting MAN’s broader strategy to strengthen customer access and prepare its network for the transition to electric mobility. The investment also reflects Portugal’s growing importance to MAN, where the company recently became market leader in the truck sector and continues to expand its commercial vehicle operations.

(PRESS RELEASE) MUNICH, 20-May-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — MAN Truck & Bus has marked one of the first major steps in its extensive European service expansion programme with the groundbreaking of a new sales and service branch in Portugal. The project, located in Castanheira do Ribatejo north of Lisbon, forms part of the company’s broader €300 million investment initiative aimed at strengthening and modernising its European service network by 2030.

The new Portuguese facility represents an investment of approximately €8 million and is one of the earliest visible developments within MAN’s long-term strategy to improve customer access, modernise infrastructure and prepare its operations for the growing transition toward electric mobility. The company plans to expand and enhance service coverage across Europe so that around 80 per cent of MAN customers can reach a service location within less than 30 minutes.

A new MAN sales and service branch is being built in Castanheira do Ribatejo, north of Lisbon.

Construction at the Castanheira do Ribatejo site is already underway, with completion scheduled for December 2027. Built on a site covering around 28,000 square metres, the branch will include approximately 4,000 square metres of operational space and feature 16 service bays designed to handle both trucks and buses simultaneously. The location will also include a dedicated used vehicle refurbishment area, an advanced spare parts warehouse, training facilities and fully digital diagnostic and reception systems intended to improve operational efficiency and customer support.

As part of MAN’s decarbonisation strategy, the new branch will integrate electric mobility infrastructure from the outset. Charging stations for both heavy and light commercial vehicles will be installed, with some made accessible to the public. The company also plans to direct roughly one-third of its total European investment programme toward electrification and digitalisation projects, including high-voltage training for technicians, battery repair centres and charging infrastructure across its network.

Friedrich Baumann, Member of the Board of Management for Sales & Customer Solutions at MAN, said the Portugal project demonstrates how quickly the company is moving forward with its service initiative and reflects MAN’s commitment to building modern infrastructure capable of supporting both conventional and electric commercial vehicles. He also noted that selecting Portugal for one of the first visible developments highlights the importance of the market within the company’s European growth strategy.

The location north of Lisbon was selected due to its strategic position within one of Portugal’s key logistics corridors, offering strong multimodal transport connections for domestic and international freight operations. Once completed, the branch will increase MAN Truck & Bus Portugal’s national network from eight to nine sales and service locations on the Portuguese mainland.

Portugal has become an increasingly important market for MAN in recent years. In 2025, the company achieved an 18.5 per cent market share in the Portuguese truck sector, becoming market leader in the country for the first time. MAN maintained this leading position during the first quarter of 2026. The company also continues to expand its presence in the bus and van segments, supported by a national workforce of approximately 150 employees.

According to David Carlos, Managing Director of MAN Truck & Bus Portugal, the new facility represents not only an investment in current operations but also a long-term commitment to innovation, growth and improved service capabilities for customers and transport partners throughout the region.
