Gasum strengthens Nordic power business with appointment of Tommi Riikonen to lead Portfolio Services

(PRESS RELEASE) ESPOO, 20-May-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Gasum has appointed Tommi Riikonen to lead its Portfolio Services operations within the company’s growing power business, reinforcing Gasum’s focus on customer-oriented energy solutions and expanding its capabilities in the evolving Nordic electricity market.

Riikonen will officially assume the position on 2 June 2026 and will play a central role in further developing Gasum’s power business strategy, particularly in areas linked to portfolio management, market services and integrated customer solutions.

Bringing extensive experience from the energy and telecommunications sectors, Tommi Riikonen joins Gasum from Finnish energy company Väre Oy, where he most recently served as Customer Success Director. During his career, he has also held senior leadership positions including Business Director at Väre and Sales Director at Savon Voima Oyj. Earlier in his professional career, he also worked as Sales Director at TeliaSonera. Riikonen will be based in Jyväskylä, Finland.

Commenting on the appointment, Riikonen said he sees significant opportunities in combining market expertise, customer understanding and solution development as the energy sector continues to undergo major structural transformation. He added that he looks forward to working alongside Gasum’s power team to develop more agile and effective services for corporate customers navigating increasingly dynamic energy markets.

Gasum’s power business currently provides a broad range of services including portfolio management, electricity market analysis, trading execution and multi-market optimisation solutions. These services are designed to help industrial companies, renewable energy producers and energy firms improve operational efficiency and respond more flexibly to changing market conditions.

According to Atte Pekkala, Head of Power at Gasum, Riikonen’s appointment will strengthen the company’s ability to build more comprehensive end-to-end energy solutions for customers as market complexity continues to increase. Pekkala noted that Riikonen brings strong experience in developing customer-driven operating models and agile business solutions.

Gasum’s power business currently serves more than 200 corporate customers across multiple sectors, including energy production, industrial operations and renewable energy development. The company operates offices in Espoo, Jyväskylä and Stockholm.

The Portfolio Services operation functions under a MiFID licence, which falls under the European Union’s Markets in Financial Instruments Directive. The permit enables Gasum Portfolio Services to provide regulated investment-related services across EU Member States, including portfolio management, trading services and financial advisory activities related to energy markets.

The appointment comes as European energy companies continue adapting to changing electricity market dynamics, increased renewable energy integration and growing demand for more sophisticated energy management and trading solutions.
