(PRESS RELEASE) MARTORELL, 18-May-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — SEAT S.A., a Spanish car manufacturer part of Volkswagen Group, continues its commitment to innovation, the circular economy, and the preservation of natural resources through collaborations with SEAQUAL INITIATIVE and Autoneum. In a groundbreaking move, SEAT becomes the first car manufacturer to utilize LABEL blue by BORGERS® recycled materials, contributing to the extraction of over 2 million plastic bottles from the ocean each year.

The SEAT Ibiza and Arona models are taking significant steps towards sustainability by introducing special editions, known as Marina Pack, which incorporate SEAQUAL® YARN in seat trim covers. Furthermore, all versions of the SEAT Ibiza and Arona now feature LABEL blue by BORGERS® recycled materials derived from marine plastics in their floors and carpets.

SEAQUAL INITIATIVE and LABEL blue by BORGERS® collaborate with NGOs, fishermen, authorities, and local communities to undertake sea and ocean clean-up efforts. Through these initiatives, marine litter from beaches, ocean floors, rivers, and estuaries is collected and sorted. The plastic is then meticulously cleaned and transformed into upcycled marine plastic, which serves as the raw material for SEAQUAL® YARN used in seat trim covers, as well as LABEL blue by BORGERS® polyester marine fibres for the floors and carpets.

“SEAT is committed to finding innovative solutions to our sustainability targets. Projects such as the use of recycled materials not only help the company achieve its goals but also contributes to the continuous cleaning of our seas, rivers, and oceans.” said Dr. Werner Tietz, Executive Vice-President for Research and Development at SEAT and CUPRA. “SEAT is determined to help preserve a natural resource which is very close to us – the Mediterranean – which is an incredibly important part of that.”

Production of the Special Edition SEAT Ibiza and Arona Marina Pack, featuring SEAQUAL® YARN seat trim and LABEL blue by BORGERS® recycled polyester fibres in floors and carpets, is scheduled to commence in June 2023.

SEAT remains dedicated to spearheading sustainable practices in the automotive industry, actively contributing to the conservation of our marine ecosystems and fostering a circular economy.
