Next-Generation Disc Separators to Revolutionize Heavy-Duty Truck Engine Emissions

(IN BRIEF) Alfdex, a joint venture between Alfa Laval and Concentric, has won a contract to supply electric disc separators to a major global truck and bus OEM, starting production in 2025. The contract will help Alfdex maintain its position as a market leader in disc separator technology and total revenues are expected to exceed SEK 2 billion over the next 10 years. The new separators have a state-of-the-art electric drive unit and will provide better performance and low energy consumption, helping trucks and buses to lower their emissions.

(PRESS RELEASE) LUND, 30-Jan-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — Alfa Laval, a world leader in heat transfer, centrifugal separation and fluid handling, announces that Alfdex, the 50/50 joint venture between Alfa Laval and Concentric, has secured a contract to supply electric disc separators to a major global truck and bus OEM. The agreement reinforces Alfdex’s position as a market leader in disc separator technology and strengthens its efforts to reduce emissions and lower energy consumption.

As a pioneer in active cleaning of crankcase gases in heavy-duty truck engines, Alfdex has a long-standing reputation for delivering reliable, high-performing solutions. The new electric disc separators, designed for even higher performance and precise control, are in line with increasingly stringent emission legislation and the growing demand for CO2 reduction.

Production of the electric disc separators is set to begin in 2025, with total revenues expected to surpass SEK 2 billion over the next 10 years. Alfdex’s latest offering builds on the proven success of its oil mist separator and represents a new generation of technology, offering better performance and lower energy consumption.

Alfdex’s separation technology is based on the same principles as the separator invented by Gustaf de Laval, the founder of Alfa Laval, in 1883 to separate cream from milk. The new technology will enable trucks and buses to reduce their emissions, contributing to a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly future.

About Alfdex

Alfdex is the world leader in reducing crankcase emissions from combustion engines by using an active separation system, referred to as the Alfdex g-Cleaner. The separation principle is based upon Alfa Laval’s long experience in centrifugal separator technology. Alfdex has specialized this technology for separating particles and liquid droplets from gas. The majority of new heavy trucks in North America, China and Europe use Alfdex-separators, and today over 6 million heavy trucks are equipped with an Alfdex system, thereby preventing over 100 million litres of oil from being released into the environment annually. Recently, Alfdex has started venturing into new application areas, including thermal management for commercial vehicles. The company is a 50/50 joint-venture between Alfa Laval and Concentric AB.
