(IN BRIEF) The Lindner Group has completed the transformation of Vienna’s historic Imperial and Royal Main Post Office into Posthöfe Vienna, a large-scale mixed-use development that combines residential, office, hospitality, and dining spaces within a preserved heritage structure. The project focused on maintaining the building’s original architectural elements, such as timber beams, stone ceilings, and brick walls, while integrating modern interior solutions and advanced building technologies. Flexible partition systems, glass design elements, and acoustic enhancements were used to create functional and contemporary spaces without compromising the historic fabric. In addition, energy-efficient climate systems and innovative flooring solutions were implemented to meet modern comfort, safety, and sustainability standards. The result is a carefully balanced redevelopment that demonstrates how historic preservation and modern construction can coexist to create a dynamic and functional urban environment.

(PRESS RELEASE) ARNSTORF, 29-Apr-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Lindner Group has completed a major revitalisation project in the heart of Vienna, transforming the historic Imperial and Royal Main Post Office into a modern, multifunctional complex known as Posthöfe Vienna. Spanning approximately 67,700 square meters, the development integrates residential apartments, contemporary office spaces, a hotel, and a public restaurant within the Dominikanerhof, creating a vibrant urban destination that blends heritage with modern use.

A key aspect of the project was balancing strict heritage preservation requirements with the demands of contemporary building standards. The original architectural character of the structure has been carefully maintained, including exposed timber beams in the attic, original stone ceilings, and traditional brickwork. These historic features are complemented by large windows that introduce abundant natural light, enhancing the building’s unique atmosphere while preserving its historical identity.

To ensure minimal disruption to the existing structure, Lindner implemented flexible interior solutions such as drywall systems and modular partition walls. These elements allowed for the creation of functional, modern layouts that integrate seamlessly within the historic framework without compromising its integrity.

In designated rental areas, the installation of Lindner Life Clear glass partitions, combined with timber and steel-framed doors, provides a contemporary design that balances transparency with structure. These solutions define office and meeting areas while maintaining an open and refined aesthetic. Additional acoustic wall linings have been incorporated to improve sound insulation, supporting a comfortable environment for both working and living.

The project also features advanced building technologies tailored to the requirements of a listed structure. Plafotherm® GK HEKDA® heated and chilled ceiling systems have been installed in selected areas to deliver efficient climate control through radiant heating and cooling. This approach ensures a quiet, energy-efficient indoor environment that aligns with modern comfort expectations.

For flooring, Lindner utilized its FLOOR and more® dry hollow floor system with calcium sulphate panels, offering high fire resistance and enabling concealed integration of technical infrastructure such as cabling. Complementing this, LIGNA raised floor panels made from engineered wood provide durability, ease of installation, and low emissions, supporting sustainable building standards and contributing to healthy indoor air quality.

Through the combination of innovative construction solutions and careful preservation, the Posthöfe Vienna project demonstrates how historic buildings can be successfully adapted to meet modern needs while retaining their architectural heritage.
