Icade Promotion and REI Habitat to step up wood construction in France

PARIS, 19-Mar-2018 — /EuropaWire/ — On March 14, 2018, Icade Promotion and REI Habitat signed a co-development partnership agreement with respect to several wood-based construction projects over the next few years in the Paris region and major French cities.

Their goals include:

  • Stepping up wood construction in France and completing 200,000 sq.m of mixed wood and concrete buildings throughout the country in the next few years.
  • Pooling their skills and spearheading an R&D programme on wood-based buildings of the future.
  • Exploring innovative uses associated with ecology—urban agriculture, social economy, zerowaste objectives, reduced energy consumption, etc.
  • Entering into an exclusive partnership with players in the French forestry and wood industry (carpenters, sawmill operators, forest management companies) consistent with shorter supply chains and traceability.

The projects resulting from this partnership, developed by Icade’s Urban Synergies, will be showcases for environmental transition in the construction industry and inventing the city of the future: Reinventing Cities C40, sites for Projects of National Significance (OIN), large-scale urban development projects, etc.

For Paul Jarquin, CEO and Chairman of REI Habitat: “The partnership that we are entering into represents close to €1 billion in estimated future revenue for the new French wood economy. It will enable our industry as a whole to become one of the international leaders in ecological building. ”

For Maurice Sissoko, Member of the Executive Committee in charge of the Property Development Division: “This partnership will enable us to innovate in order to step up environmental transition in the building sector. It’s in our DNA—due to its size, our group bears a special responsibility and intends to be one of the players who changes the way things are done.”

Key figures:
200,000 sq.m of new builds
Jobs created (direct and indirect): 10,500 FTE people
Timber used: 70 000 m3
Carbon avoided: 77,000 tonnes
