(PRESS RELEASE) MADRID, 27-Aug-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — CIMIC Group has announced significant advancements in its global operations, securing two major contracts that highlight its expertise in renewable energy and real estate development.

In Australia, CIMIC’s subsidiary UGL has been appointed by Neoen, a global leader in renewable energy, to design and construct the second phase of the Western Downs Battery in Queensland. This stage will involve the installation of a 270 MW / 540 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) using 140 Tesla Megapack 2XL units, with operations expected to commence in 2026. This project builds on UGL’s current work on the first phase of the Western Downs Battery, enhancing Queensland’s energy infrastructure as the state pushes towards its 80% renewable energy goal by 2035.

Meanwhile, in India, CIMIC’s Leighton Asia has been awarded a contract by the Elan Group to construct a mixed-use development in Gurgaon, India. The project, valued at approximately A$87 million, will feature a retail mall, a hotel, and a serviced apartment tower. Spanning 3.1 hectares, the development aims for a GRIHA 4-star green rating, underscoring Leighton Asia’s commitment to sustainable construction practices.

CIMIC Group Executive Chairman Juan Santamaria expressed pride in the company’s continued contributions to sustainable energy and urban development, both in Australia and internationally.
