Arkema partners with Prossergy and Enercat to develop innovative process for emissions reduction

(IN BRIEF) Arkema’s Lacq/Mourenx platform in Pyrénées-Atlantiques, France, has commissioned a new innovative process that will reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 28%. The platform specializes in the chemistry of specialty sulfur derivatives and has a unit whose manufacturing process produces nitrogen oxides and nitrous oxide. The technology was developed in collaboration with two French suppliers, Prossergy and Enercat, specialists in the treatment of industrial emissions. The project, which cost €3.6 million, was financed up to 32% by the French Government as part of the stimulus plan operated by ADEME. The installation has been operational since the end of November 2022 and is working in line with expectations, in line with the objectives of the Group’s climate plan to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 46% between 2019 and 2030.

(PRESS RELEASE) COLOMBES, 11-Apr-2023 — /EuropaWire/ —  Arkema (EPA: AKE), a French specialty chemicals and advanced materials company and a global leader in PVDF production, announces that its Lacq/Mourenx platform in Pyrénées-Atlantiques, France, has successfully commissioned a new innovative process that will reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 28%. The platform specializes in the chemistry of specialty sulfur derivatives and has a unit whose manufacturing process produces nitrogen oxides and nitrous oxide.

The evolution of the process at this installation considerably reduces these emissions, making it possible to respond to the need to move towards ever more environmentally friendly processes and products. The technology was developed in collaboration with two French suppliers, Prossergy and Enercat, specialists in the treatment of industrial emissions. It is distinguished by its robustness and its ability to simultaneously eliminate nitrogen oxide and nitrous oxide emissions.

“This is a great improvement for the site. In addition to reducing nitrogen oxide emissions and the carbon impact, this project has made it possible to eliminate an orange-colored plume, which was a source of concern for residents” says Bertrand LEROUX, Director of the Lacq/Mourenx site.

The installation has been operational since the end of November 2022 and is working in line with expectations, in line with the objectives of the Group’s climate plan to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 46% between 2019 and 2030. The treatment plant project, which cost €3.6 million, was launched in 2020 and completed by the end of 2022. Up to 32% of the project was financed by the French Government as part of the stimulus plan operated by ADEME.

“This successful project illustrates the significant investments Arkema is making to reduce emissions from its processes around the world.
We are also working on energy efficiency and changing the energy mix of our industrial activities. 400 million by 2030 to support the deployment of our climate plan,” said Emmanuelle Bromet, Vice President, Sustainable Development.

Arkema is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and meeting the demands of an increasingly environmentally conscious market. The successful commissioning of this new process marks a significant milestone in the company’s journey towards a more sustainable future.
