Beiersdorf: Hansaplast and the German Red Cross commit to teach first aid to 50,000 children

  • Hansaplast and the German Red Cross commit themselves to providing first-aid training to 50,000 children
  • The new Plaster Mix from Hansaplast includes first-aid tips and an informative family book about the causes of accidents in daily life and ways to avoid them

HAMBURG, 27-Jul-2016 — /EuropaWire/ — Minor or major accidents are the most frequent cause of injuries. Such accidents generally occur to children at home, at play or in kindergarten or school, according to the German Ministry of Health. Realizing this, Hansaplast and the German Red Cross have committed themselves to teaching first aid to 50,000 children.

Learning the fundamentals at an early age is a vital aspect of lifelong first-aid skills. In their partnership, Hansaplast and the German Red Cross are striving to make as many children as possible junior first aiders. The primary focus of this effort is to sensitize children about the importance of first aid. Through a playful introduction to the issue, children’s motivation and ability to provide first aid are encouraged at an early stage. This, in turn, creates a strong foundation for future first-aid skills.

First aid begins small – with instructions on how to care for scrapped knees, cuts and similar injuries. The new first-aid Plaster Mix from Hansaplast helps care for such problems: 20 bandages that come in different sizes and shapes provide fast, safe protection from dirt and infection. They offer something more as well: The Plaster Mix includes a practical insert that provides valuable first-aid tips for emergencies.

The first-aid Plaster Mix from Hansaplast will go on sale at the end of July at pharmacies and retail stores for about €3.25*. Consumers who buy the Plaster Mix in pharmacies will also receive a free educative family booklet that illustrates the dangers found in everyday life and ways to avoid them. The booklet was developed by Hansaplast and the German Red Cross in their partnership as a way of introducing kindergarten and elementary school pupils to first aid.

The collaboration with the German Red Cross is one aspect of Hansaplast’s international push to increase people’s awareness of first aid’s role in daily life. As part of this effort, Hansaplast is working with local Red Cross organizations in 10 countries and is focusing on three key areas:

  • Information: We explain why first-aid skills are important.
  • Training: We help sharpen people’s first-aid skills.
  • Prevention: We show how to prevent accidents in the home.
