UK CBI Chief Policy Director Katja Hall: EU reform agenda must focus on growth and jobs

23-7-2013 — /EuropaWire/ — The CBI responded to the publication of the first six reports in the Review of the Balance of Competences examining the UK’s relationship with the EU.

Katja Hall, CBI Chief Policy Director, said:

“Any EU reform agenda should focus on what matters for growth and jobs. That means retaining access to the single market, expanding that market fully into the service sector and pushing ahead with trade deals, like the current talks with the United States.

“There are some areas of EU legislation that should be re-thought, but any debate about the balance of who does what between the EU and member states must come up with solutions for the whole of Europe. Arguing for a special relationship for the UK alone could lead to the exit door by default.”
