TotalEnergies Develops Solar and Wind Projects in South Africa for Sasol and Air Liquide’s Decarbonization Efforts

(IN BRIEF) TotalEnergies has signed Corporate Power Purchase Agreements with Sasol South Africa and Air Liquide Large Industries South Africa for the supply of 260 MW of renewable electricity over a 20-year period. TotalEnergies will develop a 120 MW solar plant and a 140 MW wind farm in the Northern Cape province of South Africa to supply Sasol’s Secunda site, where Air Liquide operates the world’s largest oxygen production site. The projects will provide competitive and readily available renewable electricity to decarbonize Sasol and Air Liquide’s production processes, contributing to the evolution of South Africa’s energy mix. The two projects are set to become operational in 2025 and are subject to regulatory approvals.

(PRESS RELEASE) PARIS, 23-Feb-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — TotalEnergies (EPA:TTE), a global multi-energy company with over 100,000 employees and presence in more than 130 countries as well as the world’s 3rd-largest low-carbon LNG company, has announced that it has signed Corporate Power Purchase Agreements (CPPA) with Sasol South Africa and Air Liquide Large Industries South Africa for the supply of 260 MW of renewable electricity over a period of 20 years. The agreements will see TotalEnergies develop a 120 MW solar plant and a 140 MW wind farm in the Northern Cape province of South Africa to supply approximately 850 GWh of green electricity annually to Sasol’s Secunda site, located 700 kilometers further North-East, where Air Liquide operates the world’s largest oxygen production site.

These two projects will provide competitive and readily available renewable electricity to decarbonize Sasol and Air Liquide’s production processes. They demonstrate TotalEnergies’ commitment to contributing to the evolution of the energy mix in South Africa and will have a positive impact on the local community by creating jobs.

The two projects are scheduled to become operational in 2025, subject to regulatory approvals. TotalEnergies Marketing South Africa¹, along with its partner Mulilo and an unannounced B-BBEE partner, have signed the CPPAs with SASOL and Air Liquide.

Through these agreements, TotalEnergies has reinforced its position in the global transition to renewable energy and its commitment to decarbonizing the industrial sector.
