New North Sea Eirin Field Starts Deliveries to Poland Supporting ORLEN’s Long Term Supply Strategy

(IN BRIEF) ORLEN and Equinor have successfully launched gas production from the Eirin field in the North Sea, with supplies already reaching Poland and expected to reach peak annual output of around 270 million cubic meters for ORLEN. The project strengthens ORLEN’s strategic presence on the Norwegian Continental Shelf and enhances energy security for both Poland and Europe. With recoverable resources estimated at 27.6 million barrels of oil equivalent, the field is integrated with the existing Gina Krog platform, enabling cost efficiencies, faster production, and extended operational life for the host field. The development also stands out for its low emissions profile, as production is powered largely by renewable electricity sourced from shore. Gas from the field is transported through established infrastructure, including the Sleipner complex and Baltic Pipe, ensuring reliable delivery to Poland. Both partners are planning further exploration activities in the surrounding area to expand production potential.

(PRESS RELEASE) PŁOCK, 5-May-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — ORLEN has commenced gas production from the Eirin field in the North Sea, in collaboration with Equinor, which operates the project. The newly launched field is already contributing to gas supplies reaching Poland, with expected peak production of approximately 270 million cubic meters annually attributable to ORLEN. Notably, the extraction process is supported by infrastructure powered largely by renewable energy sources.

Ireneusz Fąfara, President of the Management Board of ORLEN SA, emphasized the strategic importance of operations on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, highlighting their role in reinforcing energy security across both Poland and Europe. He noted that the activation of the Eirin field strengthens ORLEN’s regional footprint and underscores its capability to execute projects that expand resource potential. Gas from the field is already being transported to Poland, helping maintain stable deliveries amid ongoing geopolitical and market uncertainties.

Situated around 250 kilometers west of Stavanger in the North Sea, the Eirin field holds estimated recoverable resources of 27.6 million barrels of oil equivalent, including approximately 3.0 billion cubic meters of natural gas. ORLEN Upstream Norway controls a 41.3% stake in the field, equating to 11.4 million barrels of oil equivalent, including 1.2 billion cubic meters of gas on a net basis. The remaining ownership belongs to Equinor.

The field development plan received approval in January 2024, and its production well has been connected to the nearby Gina Krog platform, where ORLEN Upstream Norway also maintains a partnership interest. Wiesław Prugar, Member of the ORLEN Management Board for Upstream, pointed out that utilizing existing infrastructure has enabled reduced capital expenditure and accelerated production timelines, while also boosting output levels. He added that the integration of Eirin is expected to extend the operational lifespan of the Gina Krog field by seven years and enhance recovery rates, unlocking an additional 9.7 million barrels of oil equivalent, with roughly 4 million barrels attributable to ORLEN.

The connection to the Gina Krog platform also ensures a low-carbon production profile. Since 2023, the platform has been powered entirely from shore-based electricity, with around 90% derived from hydropower and an additional 8% from wind energy. As a result, emissions from Eirin production are estimated at just 3 kg of CO₂ per barrel of oil equivalent, significantly below the Norwegian Continental Shelf average of 6.7 kg and the global upstream average of approximately 16 kg.

Gas from both Eirin and Gina Krog is transported to the Sleipner platform complex, where ORLEN also holds a stake. Following processing to meet commercial standards, the gas is transferred to the Nybro entry point linking Norwegian and Danish transmission systems. From there, it is delivered to Poland via the Baltic Pipe.

Looking ahead, ORLEN Upstream Norway and Equinor intend to continue exploring opportunities in the Gina Krog–Eirin area, aiming to further expand resource development in the region over the coming years.
