British Gas Introduces New Energy Tariff Combining Fixed Price Protection with Automatic Reductions if the Ofgem Cap Falls

(IN BRIEF) British Gas has launched a new Fix & Fall tariff that allows customers to fix their energy prices for two years while still benefiting from potential reductions if the Ofgem price cap falls after the first 12 months. The tariff has been developed in response to energy market uncertainty and customer feedback gathered during a trial period. British Gas says it is the only tariff of its kind currently available, combining the reassurance of fixed pricing with automatic rate reductions if prices fall on July 1, 2027, with possible savings of up to £50 on the average dual fuel bill. Customers on the tariff will also be eligible for PeakSave, offering half-price electricity on Sundays from 11am to 4pm. Alongside the tariff launch, British Gas is continuing to promote support for households facing energy cost pressures, including help through the British Gas Energy Trust, a £40 million hardship support commitment, and an expansion of the Warm and Working scheme, which will provide free boiler checks, home upgrades and energy efficiency improvements to 1,000 homes across the UK.

(PRESS RELEASE) WINDSOR, 27-May-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — British Gas has introduced a new Fix & Fall tariff designed to give customers greater certainty over their energy costs while still allowing them to benefit if market prices decrease.

The new tariff enables customers to fix their energy prices for two years, offering protection against possible future price rises. After the first 12 months, if the Ofgem price cap falls, British Gas will automatically reduce customers’ rates, allowing them to access lower prices without needing to switch tariff or take further action.

British Gas describes Fix & Fall as the only tariff of its kind currently available in the market. The product has been developed to combine the security of a fixed energy deal with the potential for savings if prices move downward. If prices fall on July 1, 2027, rates will be reduced by up to £50 on the average dual fuel bill.

The tariff has been launched amid continued uncertainty in the energy market and follows feedback gathered from hundreds of customers during a trial period. Customers who choose Fix & Fall will also be eligible for additional savings through PeakSave, which offers half-price electricity between 11am and 4pm on Sundays.

Gary Booker, Managing Director of British Gas, said the company wants to give customers the reassurance they are looking for at a time when energy bills remain a concern for many households. He said Fix & Fall means customers’ prices will not rise for two years, while allowing them to benefit automatically if prices fall after the first year.

British Gas is also highlighting the wider support available to customers who are struggling with energy costs. Assistance is offered both directly by the company and through the British Gas Energy Trust, an independent charity funded solely by British Gas.

Earlier this month, British Gas announced a £40 million commitment to help people facing financial hardship. The funding will support thousands of households affected by rising energy costs and broader cost-of-living pressures through grants and advice provided by the British Gas Energy Trust.

The company is also expanding its Warm and Working scheme, which provides free home upgrades, boiler servicing and energy efficiency improvements for vulnerable households. British Gas engineers are expected to visit 1,000 homes across the country over the coming months to carry out free upgrades and checks, including at eligible homes whose residents are not British Gas customers.

Booker said many customers remain concerned about energy costs and that British Gas wants to provide practical support where possible. He added that the company will be offering free boiler checks and home upgrades during the summer to help heating systems operate more efficiently ahead of the winter months.

The £40 million support package forms part of British Gas’s contribution to industry initiatives under the Warm Home Discount scheme, including debt support, energy efficiency advice and funding for fuel poverty programmes.

The Fix & Fall tariff is available to both new and existing customers.
