EBRD appoints key position to support its green and sustainable transition

Harry Boyd-Carpenter Managing Director, Green Economy and Climate Action

(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 19-Feb-2021 — /EuropaWire/ — The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) announces the appointment of Harry Boyd-Carpenter as Managing Director, Green Economy and Climate Action, a key position for the Bank’s delivery of its goal to become a majority green bank by 2025.

Mr Boyd-Carpenter said: “I am excited and honoured to take up this challenge. Driving a green and sustainable transition is a central goal for the whole of the EBRD and I look forward to working with our clients and colleagues across the Bank to deliver this for the economies where we invest.”

In its new five-year strategy, adopted in October 2020, the EBRD identifies “supporting the transition to a green, low-carbon economy” as one of its key priorities. In his new role, which he will take up on 1 April 2021, Mr Boyd-Carpenter will be responsible for coordinating the green economy work and climate action agenda of the Bank and contributing to further shaping the future of the EBRD’s Green Economy Transition approach.

Prior to his appointment, Mr Boyd-Carpenter was Director, Head of Energy, Europe, Middle East and Africa. A graduate of the University of Oxford, he joined the Bank’s Office of the General Counsel in 2005, having worked as a project finance lawyer for Allen & Overy LLP and for the European Agency for Reconstruction in Kosovo, before moving to the EBRD’s Banking team where he worked for more than 12 years, promoting investment and policy reform in the energy sector across a wide range of emerging markets and transition economies.
