AFRY Enhances Wind Turbine Maintenance Services by Combining Operational Expertise with Accredited Regulatory Inspections

(IN BRIEF) AFRY has partnered with Finspection Oy, a Finnish accredited inspection body, to strengthen its wind turbine inspection offering by integrating statutory pressure equipment inspections into wind turbine operations and maintenance. The collaboration addresses regulatory requirements for equipment such as hydraulic accumulators, which must be inspected every four years in Finland by a Tukes-approved accredited inspection body. AFRY will provide turbine access, operational expertise and site-level coordination, while Finspection Oy will carry out the accredited pressure equipment inspections. By aligning these inspections with scheduled turbine service visits, the partnership aims to reduce downtime, simplify compliance and support safer and more efficient wind farm operations. The service has already been piloted with Suomen Hyötytuuli Oy, demonstrating how periodical pressure equipment inspections can be incorporated into broader wind turbine inspection programmes.

(PRESS RELEASE) SOLNA, 5-Jun-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — AFRY has entered into a partnership with Finspection Oy, a Finnish accredited inspection body specialising in pressure equipment inspections, to expand its inspection services for wind turbine operations and maintenance.

The collaboration enables statutory pressure equipment inspections to be integrated more efficiently into wind turbine service activities, helping wind farm owners meet regulatory requirements while reducing operational disruption. The partnership combines AFRY’s experience in wind turbine operations, inspections and site coordination with Finspection Oy’s accredited authority to perform periodical inspections of pressure equipment.

Certain wind turbines include pressure equipment such as hydraulic accumulators, which are subject to regular statutory inspections. In Finland, these inspections must be carried out every four years by an accredited inspection body approved by Tukes, the Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency. By working together, AFRY and Finspection Oy aim to provide wind asset owners with a coordinated inspection model that supports safe, compliant and efficient operations.

The partnership strengthens AFRY’s ability to offer integrated inspection solutions for the wind power sector. Through close cooperation with Finspection Oy, statutory pressure equipment inspections can be planned and carried out as part of scheduled wind turbine service work, helping customers simplify compliance and avoid unnecessary downtime.

Jonathan Sistonen, Vice President and Head of Renewables & Energy Storage, Nordics at AFRY, said the partnership enhances AFRY’s ability to support wind farm owners with inspection services that combine operational expertise with accredited regulatory inspections. He noted that cooperation with Finspection Oy allows statutory pressure equipment inspections to be carried out safely and efficiently as part of planned turbine maintenance activities.

Pressure equipment used in wind turbines is governed by national and European Union safety legislation. Meeting these requirements requires accredited inspection competence as well as a strong understanding of turbine systems, site conditions and access procedures. AFRY brings long-standing experience in wind turbine operations and site-level coordination, while Finspection Oy provides the accredited capabilities and authorisations needed to conduct the periodical pressure equipment inspections.

Together, the companies offer a practical model that aligns regulatory inspections with normal wind turbine operations. By coordinating statutory inspections with other planned turbine visits, the approach can help reduce downtime, lower costs and make compliance easier for wind farm owners.

Timo Ojanperä, CEO of Finspection Oy, said the cooperation with AFRY brings together Finspection Oy’s domestic accredited inspection capabilities with AFRY’s strong market position and extensive experience in the wind power sector. He said the partnership gives customers a new option for periodical inspections of pressure accumulators used in wind turbine systems, while supporting safe, efficient and compliant wind power operations.

The partnership model is based on clearly defined responsibilities. AFRY is responsible for wind turbine access, operational expertise and site-level coordination, while Finspection Oy conducts the pressure equipment inspections as the accredited and Tukes-approved inspection body. This division of responsibilities provides a structured basis for carrying out inspections safely and efficiently across wind turbine fleets.

The service has already been piloted with Finnish wind energy company Suomen Hyötytuuli Oy. The pilot demonstrated how periodical pressure equipment inspections can be incorporated into wider wind turbine inspection programmes in practice.

The partnership with Finspection Oy further broadens AFRY’s wind turbine inspection offering and strengthens its support for clients during the operational phase of their assets. AFRY continues to develop cooperation models that combine technical, operational and regulatory expertise to help wind farm owners operate safely, efficiently and in full compliance with applicable legislation.
