Flying Spur Speed Demonstrates All-Conditions Performance with Record Ice Lap in Northern Sweden

(IN BRIEF) Bentley’s Flying Spur Speed has set a new winter lap record at the Drivecenter Arena in northern Sweden, completing the ice-covered circuit in 2 minutes and 58 seconds, the fastest time ever recorded there under winter conditions. Achieved with a standard production vehicle fitted only with studded winter tyres, the record highlights the effectiveness of the car’s hybrid powertrain and advanced chassis technologies. Inspired by Bentley’s historic performance milestones, the achievement underlines the Flying Spur Speed’s ability to deliver exceptional performance in extreme environments.

(PRESS RELEASE) CREWE, 12-Dec-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Bentley Motors has once again showcased the all-conditions performance of the Flying Spur Speed by setting a new winter lap record at the Drivecenter Arena in northern Sweden, the most northerly active race circuit in the world this winter. The achievement was completed on an ice-covered track, reinforcing the model’s capability far beyond conventional road conditions.

The record run took place at the Drivecenter Arena in Fällfors, located just 100 miles from the Arctic Circle and built on a former military airbase. Despite the 2.05-mile circuit being covered by approximately 12 inches of ice and snow, the Flying Spur Speed recorded a fastest lap time of 2 minutes and 58 seconds, the quickest ever achieved at the venue under winter conditions. During the run, the car reached a peak speed of 120 mph, even though the circuit’s longest straight measures just 450 metres and was fully coated in sheet ice.

The record-setting vehicle was a completely standard production-spec Flying Spur Speed, modified only with studded 21-inch winter tyres to suit the extreme surface conditions. Its performance was supported by Bentley’s advanced chassis technologies, including variable four-wheel drive and rear-wheel steering, which delivered agility, stability, and confidence on the frozen track.

The challenge drew inspiration from landmark moments in Bentley’s history, including the brand’s Ice Speed Records achieved in 2007 and 2011, as well as the endurance record set by a Turbo R at Millbrook Proving Ground in 1986. The specific Flying Spur Speed used for the run, registration Y15 BML, was configured to echo the Turbo R held in Bentley’s Heritage Collection, featuring Brooklands Green paintwork, yellow pinstriping, and an interior trimmed in Linen, Cumbrian Green, and Open Pore Walnut to commemorate the Turbo R’s 40th anniversary.

At the heart of the Flying Spur Speed is Bentley’s Ultra Performance Hybrid powertrain, combining a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 600 PS with a 190 PS electric motor integrated into the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. In Sport mode, the system delivers a combined 782 PS and 1,000 Nm of torque, blending the instant response of electric power with the character of the V8. The car also offers pure electric driving at speeds of up to 87 mph, with a usable electric-only range of up to 47 miles and a total driving range of 515 miles.

The Flying Spur Speed comes equipped as standard with the Bentley Performance Active Chassis, incorporating Bentley Dynamic Ride, all-wheel steering, an electronically controlled limited-slip differential, and advanced ESC software. Together with a rear-biased weight distribution of 48.3 to 51.7, these systems deliver precise torque vectoring and reliable traction, providing the control necessary to achieve a record lap on snow-covered ice.
