(PRESS RELEASE) CREWE, 23-May-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — Bentley Motors Limited, hand building cars for over a century and the most sought-after luxury car brand in the world part of Volkswagen Group, has announced two significant initiatives as part of its commitment to becoming a global leader in sustainable luxury mobility. The company has established the Bentley Sustainability Council, consisting of esteemed experts, and has unveiled its inaugural Sustainability Report, providing transparency on its sustainability journey outlined in the Beyond100 strategy.

The Bentley Sustainability Council, comprising three highly knowledgeable individuals, will act as an external advisory team, challenging and supporting the company’s pursuit of sustainability excellence. With a focus on achieving end-to-end carbon neutrality by 2030, the Council will offer fresh perspectives and guide the Bentley Board of Management and the Sustainability Committee through this transformative journey.

The esteemed members of the Bentley Sustainability Council are Dr. Sally Uren, OBE, Chief Executive of Forum for the Future; Dr. Andrew Dent, EVP of Materials Research at Material ConneXion; and Dr. Nicholas Garrett, Co-founder and Director of RCS Global Group. Their expertise will be instrumental in shaping Bentley’s sustainability strategy and future decision-making.

Simultaneously, Bentley has released its first-ever Sustainability Report, reflecting the company’s commitment to transparency and stakeholder engagement. The report provides insights into Bentley’s progress on the Beyond100 strategy and openly addresses the challenges and opportunities ahead. It highlights the sustainability initiatives implemented across the value chain, including measures taken at the historic Crewe campus and within Bentley’s latest range of luxury cars.

Bentley’s dedication to sustainability is exemplified by its £2.5 billion, ten-year sustainability investment program announced in 2022, focused on future products and the Pyms Lane factory in Crewe, where all Bentley models are meticulously handcrafted, including the forthcoming generation of all-electric vehicles.

The release of the Sustainability Report comes on the heels of a successful year for Bentley, with record-breaking sales of 15,174 cars in 2022. This achievement, driven by new model introductions, growing demand for Mulliner personalization, and the popularity of Bentley’s hybrid models, contributed to remarkable financial results, including operating profits of €708 million, a significant increase over the past five years.

Launching the Sustainability Council and first Sustainability Report, Adrian Hallmark, Chairman and CEO of Bentley Motors, said:

“Our core principles of building the best grand tourers available have remained, but Beyond100 extends this, driving fundamental changes such as the shift from traditional powertrains to electric mobility, and how the company aims to become an end-to-end carbon neutral business by 2030.

“At Bentley, we want to demonstrate our commitment to working transparently in our drive towards a more sustainable future. The report will be an annual publication, highlighting our progress as we move towards our Beyond100 targets. The new established Sustainability Council will challenge our progress and aids our mission to become the global  leader in sustainable luxury mobility.”
