Mark Davis Appointed New Managing Director of EBRD’s Southern and Eastern Mediterranean Region

(IN BRIEF) The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has appointed Mark Davis as the new Managing Director for the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean (SEMED) region, starting October 1, 2024. Davis, who has 28 years of experience in international financial institutions and commercial banking, currently serves as the EBRD’s Regional Head of Central Europe. He replaces Heike Harmgart, who has taken a new role as Managing Director for Sub-Saharan Africa. Davis expressed his focus on promoting green transition, business competitiveness, financial resilience, and digitalization in the SEMED region. The EBRD has invested over €22.3 billion in the SEMED region since 2012.

(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 19-Sep-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has named Mark Davis as the new Managing Director for the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean (SEMED) region, effective from October 1, 2024. Davis, who currently serves as the EBRD’s Regional Head of Central Europe, will succeed Heike Harmgart, who has recently taken on the role of Managing Director for Sub-Saharan Africa.

Davis, an American national, brings 28 years of experience from international financial institutions and commercial banking, including senior roles at the World Bank, Morgan Stanley, and Goldman Sachs. His extensive background spans business development in the EU, eastern Europe, and Central Asia, as well as expertise in global capital markets and policy dialogue. He holds a PhD in Economics from Tulane University in the U.S.

Expressing enthusiasm about his new role, Davis emphasized his commitment to accelerating the green transition, enhancing corporate sector competitiveness, and promoting financial sector resilience, inclusion, and digitalization in the SEMED region.

Since the EBRD began operations in the SEMED region in 2012, it has invested over €22.3 billion in 414 projects, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, agribusiness, infrastructure, renewable energy, and local capital market development.
