Ukrainian Innovators Thrive with Green Solutions Amidst War, Supported by EBRD and EU

(IN BRIEF) Ukrainian companies are leading green innovation despite the challenges of war, with support from the EBRD, EU, and Greencubator through the Climate Innovation Vouchers programme. Pipes.one has developed a mobile factory that reduces emissions and costs by producing pipes directly at construction sites, while Carbominer captures CO2 from the air to help farmers boost greenhouse crop yields. Both companies are advancing sustainability, with Pipes.one focused on contributing to Ukraine’s reconstruction and Carbominer expanding its operations between Ukraine and Poland.

(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 20-Sep-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Amidst the challenges of war, Ukrainian companies are pioneering green solutions, from capturing harmful CO2 to revolutionizing pipe production. Since 2017, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Union (EU) have supported Ukrainian businesses in reducing emissions and boosting energy efficiency through the Climate Innovation Vouchers programme. Here are two standout examples.

Pipes.one: This Ukrainian company is transforming the polymer pipe production market by introducing the world’s first mobile pipe factory. Instead of transporting pipes over long distances, their mobile units manufacture them directly at construction sites, significantly reducing CO2 emissions, raw material use, and costs. The company has obtained certifications for its technology in both Ukraine and the EU, and despite the war, continues to grow and contribute to Ukraine’s reconstruction efforts.

Carbominer: Founded by Nick and Victoria Oseyko, Carbominer is tackling climate change while helping farmers. Their machine captures CO2 from the air and feeds it into greenhouses to enhance crop growth, offering a more sustainable alternative to traditional CO2 supplies. With backing from the Climate Innovation Vouchers programme, Carbominer has patented its technology in Ukraine, applied for a U.S. patent, and is expanding operations between Ukraine and Poland, testing prototypes and attracting further investment.

The Climate Innovation Vouchers programme, managed by the Ukrainian NGO Greencubator and supported by the EU’s EU4Climate initiative, continues to nurture Ukraine’s green innovators, ensuring a sustainable future despite ongoing adversities.
