Wood Advances Lifecycle Role in Canadian Uranium Sector with Phoenix Project Construction Management Contract

(IN BRIEF) Wood has secured a construction management contract from Denison Mines Corp. for the Phoenix in-situ recovery uranium mine, advancing the Wheeler River project toward construction. The agreement builds on a multi-year partnership between the companies, with Wood previously involved in feasibility and detailed design work. The contract includes oversight of construction, infrastructure installation, procurement support, and project controls, delivered through an integrated team approach. Denison is preparing to begin site work once regulatory approvals are received, with plans to move quickly toward a final investment decision. The project is expected to take around 24 months to build and represents a significant step forward in Canada’s uranium sector.

(PRESS RELEASE) ABERDEEN, 7-Apr-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Wood has been awarded a construction management contract by Denison Mines Corp. for the development of the Phoenix in-situ recovery uranium mine, marking a key milestone as the Wheeler River project moves closer to the construction phase.

The appointment strengthens the long-standing collaboration between the two companies, which began with joint work on the 2023 feasibility study for Phoenix and continued through detailed engineering design in the years that followed. By entrusting Wood with construction management responsibilities, Denison aims to ensure continuity across all phases of the project, from planning through execution.

David Cates, President and CEO of Denison, noted that the company is preparing to move swiftly into site development once federal approvals are obtained. Teams are being assembled and key construction personnel onboarded to enable a rapid transition into site preparation activities. With a solid financial position and advanced progress in engineering, procurement, and planning, Denison is positioning itself to make a final investment decision shortly after securing the necessary regulatory approvals for environmental assessment and construction licensing.

Kris Homer, Senior Vice President of Minerals and Metals West at Wood, emphasized the importance of maintaining continuity and operational discipline as the project enters its next phase. Having supported the project from feasibility through detailed design, Wood brings a deep understanding of the technical requirements and execution strategy needed to deliver the Phoenix project successfully. The focus will be on ensuring a smooth transition into construction, with strong project management practices and a clear path toward initial production.

Under the contract, Wood will oversee construction management for the full processing plant scope, coordinate the installation of key site infrastructure, and provide integrated project controls. Additional responsibilities include procurement support, on-site safety management, and maintaining performance monitoring and reporting standards. The work will be carried out through a collaborative structure, with Wood and Denison teams operating as an integrated project management unit.

The construction phase is expected to span approximately 24 months, with Denison acting as the operator of the Wheeler River Joint Venture. The continuity provided by Wood’s involvement from feasibility to execution is intended to streamline delivery, reduce project risks, and support a predictable timeline toward first uranium production.

This latest contract award builds on Wood’s earlier role in the project’s detailed design phase, reinforcing a lifecycle approach that integrates engineering, planning, and construction management to deliver complex mining developments efficiently.
